(28,706 posts)"Lots of ways" is pure BS. They hold all the cards.
It is not, in fact, "arguable" how ethical such blackmail would be. It would be both unethical and almost certainly illegal.

(6,991 posts)And I thank GOD LBJ did do exactly that when it came down to passing Civil Rights legislation, because Blacks probably still wouldn't have the right to vote. The way it appears now, the GQP US Taliban Party, along with that greedy, lying, a moral, pseudo-Dem from WV whose worried about disenfranchising the GQP US Taliban Party and that greedy, two-faced, lying cow from Arizona will allow the GQP to destroy the country, AND take the rest of us right down the drain with them.
Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. The GQP might as well bring back the old rallying cry of George Wallace's from 1963 "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever", for racist whites who opposed to integration and the Civil Rights Movement, because WHEN they get a hold of all 3 branches of government again, the country we know will fail to exist. Who'll stop 'em?

(7,654 posts)Heck if it would work I'd say go for it, but it wouldn't so the solution is the same as before... vote in two more progressive senators to make them both irrelevant...then primary them.
Once we don't need their votes for anything we don't need them.

(98,883 posts)if he tried some tactic like the OP suggests, is getting a republican elected in West Virgina.
Most important, you can't threaten someone who doesn't care

(10,107 posts)A lot of angry Democrats think he can wave a magic wand and make them cooperate. And say Biden is ineffective because he cannot. Theyre going to destroy the country and take Biden down with them, and hes doing all he can to change their minds, but in the end he cannot force them to do the right thing.

(29,742 posts)Ruining their states JFC! That has to be the most hideous suggestion from anyone on this board in all the years Ive been a member.

(14,720 posts)And if the President were to use the Federal Government to punish a state for purely political reasons it would be both an impeachable offense and most likely a crime, except Congress and the Courts would block it before it could happen.

(7,911 posts)I guess that's what would be considered a "tough choice". It's certainly what the autocrats on the other side would do.
Sometimes you have to beat a bully's ass.
That's what stops them.

(96,882 posts)Add to which, the average voter isnt thinking a lot about voting as an issue.
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)Because average voters don't actually want to give away their money and power to the millionaires who control politicians. Put it in terms they will understand, and tell them to call their Senators to demand support.

(1,852 posts)All he needs to do is rub his magic unicorn horn 3 times, counterclockwise of course, sprinkle a not too large smattering of fairy dust, and voila -- Manchin and Sinema will dutifully fall into line. If that doesn't work, look up Barbara Eden and see if she can wriggle her nose.
brooklynite
(96,882 posts)Barbara Eden blinked. Elizabeth Montgomery wiggled her nose.

(2,403 posts)Left with the idea that the point of this post is to create negativity towards biden.
Hey he could do it. He just doesnt want to. Right? Give me a break.

(59,534 posts)I believe there is something they are holding over him that is making him torpedo all Democratic legislative goals. The "work with republicans" nonsense is just smokescreen.
Sinema, on the other hand, I think is a bit of a nut case.

(7,046 posts)She ran on a much more progressive platform, ousting a solid conservative who got beat by the other Democrat. Any Democrat who wants that seat when she's done can have it. She won't pass the primary.
