The group's planning "was about their fanciful idea that ... Trump was going to activate them as a militia under the insurrection act," says his attorney Jon Moseley.

Trump had no authority to declare such a rag-tag organization to be a militia. He was already the CiC of the world's largest "militia."

(6,103 posts)tRump & his henchmen. He is a master at keeping himself at arms length while he gets someone else to do his dirty work. These eager beavers were itching to get their guns and gallop up to Capitol Hill especially with the certainty that tRump would take care of them. Cant wait to see who dangled that carrot to get them to go along with the big lie.
Too late they discovered what countless others have found out he had no intention of offering pardons or any other help. He uses, abuses and leaves his dummies behind. Theyll take the fall unless they wake up ready to flip. Start singing like canaries in order to save their mangy necks.
I cant wait to see them scared and trembling trying to figure a way out of the mess they got ensnared to join. Gonna be a good day when they have to tell what they know. Pop some corn and pass around the cold beverages. Its gonna be must see tv for sure. 😂😂😂

(51,134 posts)and the plan was to make the overthrow look spontaneous and populist, a la Budapest and the demonstrators marching on the Kremlin in Moscow on January 20, 1991.
The crowd was brought there as a cover for the coup. The Oath Keepers were part of the coup plot, their goal has been the overthrow since day one when they started as a violent reaction to a black president.

Flash forward to 2021, where they would go on to embrace the idea of being government brownshirts.

(6,297 posts)They claimed to be Christian (of course) and the had meetings about how important it was for them to be the head of their households. They would have workshops in different cities.
I remember my wife and I laughing about them because they were just another extremist group trying to sound reasonable. They all try. But if you listen long enough, the crazy comes pouring out.

(62,536 posts)...sure seems like a winner to me.
I looked up that 2010 case, it wasn't very solid, they were just gun nutters and they had an FBI guy embedded in them (let's be real 90% of these idiots probably have an FBI guy embedded in their groups which is what makes it so funny). They talked about overthrowing the government but never actually did anything. It was just ranting fantasies of rambling militia assholes. They did get charged with Federal arms violations because they had all sorts of heavy weapons and maybe they would've done some stupid shit later, but taking their guns away seems to have neutered them.
Here's a great article on that 2010 case and it makes the case for charging the insurrectionists (back in Feb of 2021), kinda prophetic: https://www.lawfareblog.com/last-time-justice-department-prosecuted-seditious-conspiracy-case
