Ron Filipkowski
@RonFilipkowski

Trump tells PA GOP why he is placing an emphasis on Supervisor of Elections races in 22: “We have to be a lot sharper the next time when it comes to counting the vote .. Sometimes the vote counter is more important than the candidate. They have to get a lot tougher and smarter.”

I would prefer Florence because it’s all-solitary confinement and he won’t get the chance to corrupt the minds of the other people on his cell block, but Leavenworth would also be fine.

The ideal situation would be to put the entire bunch on one of those islands in the Pacific we used as an airfield during World War II, without any form of communication, and assign four Navy destroyers to keep people away from it. We could go all Dirty Dozen and make them build their own housing.

I don't know how you could cheat. When voting is done we stay and count in 4 different columns. ballets out, ballets used, number of people who voted for dem ind writein and rep have to equal the ballets used.

Plus we do require ID of some sort

Unless the partisan counters have access to voting machine programs, it’s hard to cheat. But with mail ballots, there are ways for the counter to cheat. One change in the recent Texas voter suppression laws relates to checking signatures. In the past, election clerks had to check the signature on the mail ballot against a signature no more than six years old, presumably because people must renew a driver’s license every six years. Republicans changed this requirement to allow matching of signatures as much as thirty years old. I can look today at my signature from thirty years ago and see differences, as our handwriting changes as we age. Plus, some people tend to hurriedly scrawl signatures without worrying that it might not match an “official” signature at some point in the future. That change opens the door to partisan clerks calling a signature mismatch and throwing out the ballot.

Another way to cheat is to find a minor mistake on a mail ballot but hold it until near electionnday to prevent the voter from having time to fix the error. Another Republican trick is for the permanent election staff to deliberately enter an error into the system from a new voter registration form. By changing a middle initial or changing the spelling of a name slightly, when the voter may have to cast a provisional ballot that is never counted.

And of course there was Brian Kemp’s trick of just not processing around 50,000 voter applications until after the election. We need completely independent elections staff that are not partisan to either political party.

The MSM treated him like a demigod in ‘15 and he raked in the cash and brand recognition, the two things he values most. He had no intention, or desire, of winning, yet he won and the cash and brand recognition skyrocketed. Plus he found, with the aid of some twisted Constitutional interpretationists, that he was legally untouchable. So moving forward he has no reason to think it all won’t happen again.

Several posters here seem to have bought into the fake claim (started by Republicans after Biden won Pennsylvania) that Stalin said something along these lines.

I'm guessing that's Putin's influence.

Stalin — as an imaginary rather than actual historical figure, the embodiment of an idea of order and justice — is at the core of Russian perceptions of the glorious past. The Kremlin has done nothing to halt the creeping rehabilitation of Stalin; in fact, it is happy to encourage the cliches of Soviet success wherever it can.

as those would be denied him as a prisoner. Someone would have to represent him as a proxy. No speeches, no communicating with campaign staff, none of that which gives him oxygen.

He'd have to be paroled or pardoned, neither of which seem likely. No matter how much he and his enablers may say it will happen, It won't.

If we entertain the fear of it rather than take steps to actually win, that is if we worry ourselves into defensive rather than outspoken campaigning then the GOP will win.

His niece has been saying he'll fold like a wet paper bag once he's charged and arrested. He is not personally brave. He's a bully who cannot deal with losing at anything.

Eugene Debs campaigned by sending letters to supporters (most newspapers wouldn’t cover him) and his campaign never had a chance anyway.
He ran 6 times, and got 6% in 1912 and then got his 10 year sentence for sedition.
If Trump could win from prison I guess he could try pardoning himself.

In Red Counties they are going to vote rethug.

In Blue Counties they are going to vote mostly Democratic.

And in all polling places I have worked in it is pretty much the same. (I also delivered lunch and supplies to several dozen polling places as part of the Kerry Ground Game on election day 2004 so I have seen a lot of how they all operate.)

And at most polling places the Supers median age is somewhere south of the 1950's. And they have protoge's who have been waiting in the wings since 1969.

No one runs for these spots because they (the regulars) are appointed by the county/town/city board.

There are both minority and majority inspectors in all polling places too. Plus lately both parties have had volunteer attorneys either as official poll watchers or on call to all polling sites. The supervisor does not operate in a vacuum.

I think PA's system is solid, the folks who run the polls are all older and have lots of integrity as far as their responsibilities go. Kinda like the guy in GA.

This does not scare me at all, at least in PA.

Our legislature on the other hand is being run by RW wackos, has been for years. But as long as we have a Democratic Governor PA will be ok.
