2. I admit to knowing next to zero about tsunamis.

I'd think the further distance would lessen intensity. However, you probably have to factor in what the coastline looks like, and presence of barriers.

I've never seen pictures of any location looking like that in Japan. Certainly not a dock with boats like that.

What are you seeing that makes you think this is Japan?

Knocked some boats about, not as bad as the larger Japanese tsunami.

17. Actually, the surge from the Japanese tsunami didn't flood the parking lot as this did

Perhaps this surge wasnt as forceful, maybe slower moving, but the water rise was deeper.

I remember when the Tsunami hit Japan. I always envisioned that a tsunami would be a gigantic cresting and crashing wave, not a silent surge of water relentlessly rising.

they are being swept away in the water.

20. I remember that day. I live on a street with a "tsunami zone" sign.

I'm uphill from the sign, so out of harms way but I remember watching that day for swells.
Your video of the harbor in Santa Cruz is severe, I think, because the swell is concentrated by the shape of the surrounding coastline, like a funnel.
