(16,646 posts)I don't think you have to be a naval aviator to command an aircraft carrier. Just like they send them to nuke school, but don't require them to spend time in a nuclear engine room, I think you could take a nuclear engineer, and with proper training about flight operations, teach them what they need to know about aircraft operations.

A rear seater can qualify.
