The rightwing Fox News host Laura Ingraham has stoked outrage by announcing that the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff had tested positive for Covid-19 and applauding as she did so.
One critic called the host a merchant of death. Another said he was not sure when hate became a Christian value.
Gen Mark Milley became a target of rightwing anger after extensive reporting showed how he worked to contain Donald Trump at the end of his time in power, keeping US armed forces out of domestic affairs.
Milley has also defended the teaching in military institutions of critical race theory, an academic discipline which conservatives have turned into a profitable election issue.

.Raymond Arroyo, a star on the Catholic EWTN network. Smarmy bastard who thinks he knows more than the Pope himself.
A pair of really exemplary Christians, right there.

(3,210 posts)...until someone there decided they needed to appeal to Faux News viewers (middle-age+ men = we need more hot women). So now they have hired more of the "young chicky" types at EWTN (at least three different news shows, a "pro-life" show, etc. all with Faux fembot types, as Randi Rhodes called them). So now Arroyo is like their "senior anchorman" or something. EWTN is a real piece of work. You have to see it to believe it.

Words fail me . . .
Mind you, DU is guilty of that too.

Got to watch this polarization and erosion of sane human values!

Either it's ok or it's not. If it's not, maybe catch it where you live.

Consider this. In most cases those who point out righties who've come down with COVID are noting the righties' carelessness in dealing with the pandemic.

(22,502 posts)laughing at a brain-dead idiot that is driving totally shit faced, claiming the BAC theory is an Illuminati plot and that seat belts and stop signs are direct government impositions on his freedumbs
Who then dies in a car wreck, maybe with some of his brain-dead friends and relatives who were whooping and laughing and telling him how right he was
As opposed to laughing at the innocent person killed in the other vehicle that knew EXACTLY how dangerous drunk driving is and was very careful in his driving habits
Well, if you cant tell the difference, then thats on you

then, yes, the scorn that is subsequently heaped upon them is well deserved.
I found the seat belt example to be a red herring, so to bring it back to COVID, its one thing to have little to no sympathy for somebody who loudly mocks the science, puts others at risk by their ignorance, and then gets sick or doesnt get sick but still spreads their dangerous bullshit (like Ingraham). Its quite another if its somebody who did take all the precautions (as the generals did) and still gets sick, or has an underlying condition that prevents them from getting vaxxed.
So
the breast cancer example. Did anybody here gloat when Ingraham was diagnosed with something that was beyond her control?
I dont suffer fools gladly. Never have, never will. Same goes for those who mount high horses.

(6,821 posts)to engage in such cavalier behavior. I tend to believe those in positions of power and/or influence have a much greater obligation to temper their words and actions as those words and actions have a much greater impact.
Much as I hold law enforcement, doctors and jurists to a higher standard than the general populace, I also place that same duty of accuracy, good-faith and professionalism on many in broadcast journalism.
