crimesMichigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said theres absolutely enough evidence to charge 16 Republicans for submitting false certificates claiming former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election.
Nessel, a Democrat, handed federal prosecutors the details of a year-long investigation into Republicans who signed documents falsely identifying themselves as Michigans electors in December 2020. Nessel said her office could still bring state-level charges against the group, which includes the co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party, but federal prosecutors are better equipped to investigate connections between Michigan and other states where false certifications were signed.
If it became clear to me that there was not going to be any accountability federally ... I think it would be incumbent upon my department to move forward on this, Nessel said in a Tuesday press conference. These are incredibly serious charges. The gravity of this situation, I dont think can possibly be overstated as to what it means for our system of elections. We know how close we came to this being successful.
Nessel said charges related to forgery of a public record and election law forgery could be brought against the GOP electors. She said forging election certificates is a crime, and described the effort as election fraud.

(32,791 posts)In the case of Michigan I hope it's the state AG's job. Also I'm pretty sure our Pennsylvania AG Josh Shapiro is acting on the same crime committed by PA Repukes. The other states, I'm not so sure they're looking at it that way.
In any case: Lock Them Up

(15,173 posts)The Pennsylvania "electors" put a qualifier in their form. Essentially, IF the court decides that trump won, then we are submitting these electors.

(32,791 posts)That's why Nessel turned her results over to them, because it has become known that this was a bigger conspiracy than just Michigan and was an fact a piece of a large puzzle, the coup. It this had only happened in Michigan she would charge the people here, but this was nationally coordinated effort.

Maybe that statement alone legitimizes many here questioning the DOJ. You don't have to wait for massive complete evidence on a bank robbery to arrest and try the guy who sold the bank plans to the perps! The bank WAS robbed!
I'm beginning to wonder if Garland is upset that Obama didn't do more to get him confirmed.

(3,248 posts)I'm sure that is what the republicans want. At least they say they want to stop voter fraud.
