General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPlease note. If you share a mailing address w/others, only one party will get the 4 Covid tests
The others are shut out.
I live in a duplex. When I went to order, today, I was told that the address had already been used to order.
So there's a big problem with this system. Multiple people will be excluded.
I paid $50 for four tests, others will pay nothing.

(42,033 posts)It is an obvious goof up. They will need to get it fixed. Many people live in high rise buildings with hundreds of neighbors.

(17,548 posts)that apartment buildings will 'count as 1' also.
Again, NO CONFIRMATION - could be RepubliQan rumor - and who would be surprised!!!!!!

(2,047 posts)because it said tests had already been sent to this address and I live in an apartment building. I put my apartment number in the field asking for apartment or suite but it doesn't care.

(34,195 posts)I live in an 11-story building with 150 apartments.
Signed up without a glitch.
The fact that some can't is a problem.

(13,849 posts)My 90 year old landlords evidently beat me to this today.
Crazy. It is a huge problem across the country, whether it's two units or hundreds at one address.

(329 posts)I had trouble ordering the test. My address came up with 13 similar addresses. Fortunately, my daughter figured out that I had to type in capitals. She copied and pasted our address from the list provided by the USPS and that worked. Couldn't put our unit number in the field they provided.
FuzzyRabbit
(2,215 posts)everyone that it was a duplex.
You might try adding "Apt 2" or something like that to your address. I am going to recommend that to my nephew who rents a separate apartment from his mother.
FuzzyRabbit
(2,215 posts)People without internet cannot order these tests. For example, on many Indian reservations people cannot afford internet. So this population, already hit very hard by covid, will be at even more of a disadvantage.

(34,891 posts)She was ordering for her neighbors in her apartment complex who don't have Internet. That's where she discovered address glitch. She was eventually able to get their orders through. They're working on setting up a phone number for people without Internet, which I'm surprised they hadn't done in the first place.

(20,047 posts)I'm curious if what you saw also mentioned the rollout of the telephone number for this specific demographic?
Im not being mean or a jerk, I'm honestly curious.

No idea why the poster used it, but theres nothing nefarious about it.
herding cats
(20,047 posts)What's your point?
Off the top of my head I can think of more than one of common terminology used there which we would be appalled by here.
It means something entirely different this side of the pond.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)I was simply pointing out the poster may not have meant anything negative in using that word.

(20,047 posts)I asked them a question and they clarified. I said we were fine. They and
I are in good standing. How am I thinking something bad?
What am I supposed to do, not ask questions for clarification?
I'm waiting to see if they heard on the TV segment they mention that it also stated the telephone number rollout. It was moments after the part they mentioned. I'm curious how people process what they hear and see.
There's nothing nefarious nor accusatory going on here. I'm just curious about how people receive information and then share it as they do with others.

BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)Are there no libraries on or near reservations?
If not, thats insane. Everyone should have access to a library.
madville
(7,847 posts)The majority of folks on a reservation probably have access to someone with at least a phone capable of getting on that website if they dont have one themselves.

(9,212 posts)Is they recommend 2 tests per person, not nearly enough, but they only allow 4 tests per address with no regard for how many people may be living there.
herding cats
(20,047 posts)4 tests per household isn't enough per month. It's definitely better than zero, but it needs to be raised. Problem is, there's currently a shortage of tests. I feel as if there will be a raise in the number (while there's still an interest) shortly as supply ramps back up. Bear in mind, before they were disposing of millions of unwanted tests at a loss. All while selling them at cost to retailers.
Before, most didn't want them. They scoffed at the concept, said antigen tests gave false positives (not so, it's always been the opposite in a small percentage) and they avoided them.
I was basking in the availability of tests most all of last year... until this wave. Suddenly, everyone can't get enough. Which seems weird to me since delta was so horrific, also. Probably more so in how many it killed vs. the number infected.
Give it a moment for supply to catch up to this sudden surge in demand.
Meowmee
(9,212 posts)And certainly any free tests are better than none. But at this point in time we should not be having shortages of tests, this should have been planned for. I believe we are the only similar country taht does. The tests will always be somewhat problematic. There are always false pos/ neg results. Lets hope the supply situation gets better. You should be able to test for flu at home for free as well. It shouldn't be run as for profit.

(13,849 posts)Honestly, we need to step outside our bubbles of comfort and look at this like DEMOCRATS should.
Who really needs these tests? People who can't afford them!!
And yet the distribution program seems designed to exclude precisely those people. Large families. The unhoused, sharing space as they can find it. And so on.
GoCubsGo
(34,891 posts)I'm one of those people. Can't afford the $1000/mo. out of pocket, don't qualify for Medicaid, live in a state where it wasn't expanded.
