American made machines with open source software

Hand counts on federal races election night

Regular audits

Paper ballots make the line faster, lots of seat can fit in a gymnasium

No waiting for a few machines

That is why a receipt is needed and confirmation on the net that persons truly did vote legally and it was accepted, tho even then in red states it will be challenged and even tossed out or simply ignored.

Although defeated in the senate by two so called Democrats, voting matters and the world has and will see the continue fight for it.

It was Republicans who were largely the driving force for touch-screen voting machines. There were all kinds of concerns about voting machines being hacked, proprietary software that was beyond review or testing, and the possibility of votes being undetectably changed in the bowels of the software. This is not an exhaustive list by any means. But Republicans pushed and pushed hard for voting machines that left no paper trail. Now they're screaming for paper ballots, but whaddya know? There are now paper shortages (at least in Texas) that threaten to short-circuit the printing of paper ballots.

This country ran free and fair elections for decades, centuries even. But then Republicans figured out that they couldn't win elections on those terms, and have ever since expended all their energy on gumming up the election process. If they spent their energy on good governance, they wouldn't have to worry about voters turning them out of office. But it's not a Republican value for government to deliver.

The vast majority of paper ballots are optical scan, which after filled out are ran through a scanner and tabulated.

The concern in the mid 00s was so-called "black box voting," where people would vote on touch screen machines but there would be no individual record of a vote, just an automatic tabulation. This was a very valid concern, but has been mostly remedied by the machines printing out a separate paper "receipt" for the voter to deposit in case of a recount or audit.

But right now there's no reason why computer tabulation methods can't be trusted as the primary counting method. The paper trail is necessary if there's a recount and people need to inspect the ballot to make sure the primary tally matched the voter's intent.

I believe Republican legislators in Arizona filed a bill recently demanding their be no computer tabulation of ballots, not even as a primary method. That of course is meant to slow down the counting process and I'm sure allow for them to challenge the ballots being cast.

Democracy demands an open, transparent count

That can only be done by hand

Most precincts are less than 2000 ballots, use the scanner but hand count federal races

Wouldn’t take that long

paper ballots mean a paper trail, something Democrats have long sought.
They are screaming for the removal of vote counting machines and want everything hand counted.
The want to steal the elections, like they did in Florida.

What I have heard them screaming about is limiting absentee/ mail-in ballots, stringent ID regulations, and prioritizing in person voting (either on paper or touch screens) so that turnout can be suppressed by long lines, fewer polling places, etc.

Most developed democracies use paper ballots.
