. . . . . we lose our democracy?
If you think it is a certainty, when do you think it will happen? Or has it already happened?

(9,132 posts)What people mean by "losing our democracy" is often specific to the person and their own views of things. Do you mean a lack of elections? Do you mean permanent rule by one party?
What does a loss of democracy look like?
I'd argue that corporations have already functionally hijacked our democracy, and our politicians and an election system based on money have functionally check-mated the representational republic. We'll get crumbs, but we cannot meaningfully move forward unless corporations want us to. They allow us just enough and keep us just comfortable enough so that we don't actually revolt.

(90,367 posts)We're lower ranking on democracy index than we should be because people think the 20% "figuring it out" is ok.

(90,367 posts)... looking at the laws that have been passed.
Texas is technically a dictatorship with the lowest voter access and involvement in the union, that's why the leadership there does the dumbest shit like outlaw abortion and claim Biden isn't the troops CiC there.
We don't want Texas for the rest of the country

The Democratic elements of our Constitutional Republic are enshrined in the Constitution.

(28 posts)I am good with creating mandates for most things that we need like climate change, Covid vaccination, single-payer health care, anti-racist teachings at all levels of school and industry, multi-trillion dollar reparations for Black individuals, and changing our Constitution to more reflect a 1619 start of the country with the installment of chattle slavery by white supremacists. In other words, we should NOT have to vote "for" or "against" climate change, etc., just like we should NOT have to vote "for" or "against" police brutality over BIPOC, for instance. Therefore, I'm more nuanced in how this transformation should be done. The main thing is to ensure BIPOC has primary ability to vote their needs over any other democratic function that we have.
