In 2016: "Oh, we can't confirm a Supreme Court seat in the final year of a presidential term!"

In 2020: "Let's confirm this SCOTUS nominee just weeks before the election, (even though we know Trump will lose)."

Still, McConnell's hypocrisy is legendary.

Manchin and Sinema are disgraceful and hypocritical, too. We Democrats need to neuter them by electing some more Democratic Senators this Fall.

"good" behavior, when they use their power to thwart progress. Manchin is entrenched in WVA politics and the Ds are not likely to nominate someone else for the senate position. Sinema is toast. But say she does turn R, how is that different from what she is doing right now as a D?

creating law? I think what is forgotten in this debate is that we have Biden to veto any R legislation that the senate under Mitch's control would pass. Granted there are still department positions and ambassadorships that need senate confirmation but Mitch is holding up the vote on those that Biden has nominated so that argument is moot. The only argument that has merit for Sinema not going R is that her position as a D, and her vote as a D, would allow Biden to expand the courts and change to the courts. What has she said in this regard?

In the first year of a president’s term.

If Mitch McConnell was in charge, which your plan would accomplish, that number would have been zero.

Why do people still not understand this? It's extremely important that McConnell not get control of the Senate again. Anyone who doesn't know why needs to review some recent history (i.e., the Obama administration), when McConnell did his level best to prevent everything Obama wanted to do from even getting to the Senate floor. Have people already forgotten about that? It was a nightmare!

of Committee chairmanships. If McConnell becomes majority leader, all the Democratic Senators might just as well go home. And for that matter, the House, too. No Democratic bill will come to the Senate floor for a vote, period. And if something happens to a Democratic Supreme Court Justice, as long as McConnel is in charge the vacancy will be filled by the next republican President, even if it's not until 2032.

We could just blame the Repubs for everything, and it would be accurate. Right now, even though Repubs aren't helping the country or us, the problem is that the 2 main roadblocks to our agenda both have Dem party affiliation.

Gorsuch being completely amoral I gather is considered a positive trait for a Supreme Court Justice.

The values on the right are rotten to the core. Why we can't make that clear is beyond frustrating.

"We didn't actually do anything, but we went through the motions".

I don't seem to understand how any president can't have enough leverage to pull the vote of two Senators that belong to his own party.

I'm sure someone will explain it to me.

" We can't afford to lose two seats".

WHEN YOU SHIT ALL OVER THE BASE THAT ELECTED YOU, YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE A LOT MORE THAN TWO GODDAMMED SEATS!!!

So twist their fucking arms till they cry uncle, at least you will have gotten something done that is of the utmost life and death importance for those who voted for you.

Results talk, bullshit walks.

We have a slim majority. We need to win more elections, then those two won't matter. Maybe we need to focus on the voters.
