I do car pickup when I shop at Walmart but there was a problem and I had to go into pick it up. As I come out there is a commotion it seems an anti masker was railing at the police, she was claiming that Walmart was public property and she couldn't be asked to wear a mask or be asked to leave. The police kept telling her that only government owned buildings are public property, her answer was she walked though the door so it was public. She went on about the Constitution and her rights, then she started going off on the cops saying she can't believe how stupid they are and that they need to go back to the academy to be retrained. They gave her several more warnings that she had been trespassed but she wouldn't leave so I got to watch her resisting the police and finally get literally stuffed into the back of the patrol car swearing like a sailor the whole time, all this was missing was popcorn.

(58,785 posts)your knowledge? Although average U.S. pay these days is underpay in my estimation as well, Walmart pays somewhat over average rate for the kind of jobs we see being performed, and overall employees report it's not a bad place to work.
It's amazing that more people haven't started employee-owned/cooperative businesses given how many say they want socialization; there are several hundred in the U.S., so it's not impossible. And federal and many state government programs offer substantial financial assistance to those business types.

I was blessed by the golden conditions that still prevailed toward the end of the liberal-dominated New Deal era.
Today, toward the end (we hope) of the conservative/business dominated era that followed, things are terrible for young people taking similarly un- or low-skill jobs.
Today is also after an intervening 40 years of enormous wealth creation due to technological advances. America is far wealthier now than in the 1950s-60s. When I dropped out of high school, there were no centimillionaire and billionaire classes.
Note what Nancy calls for below. This subject always makes me angry at the damned lying liars who claim Democrats are like Republicans, and the useful LW idiots who believe them. Republicans are a minority and couldn't have done it without generations of useful idiots.

(8,790 posts)And they are all about rights, white rights. Even making em up on site. Like mentioned above. Some areas have only on choice. Wally World or the Dollar Store. In a tourist primary area in WNC all small businesses are dedicated to extremely wealthy tourists. No one here can afford or needs their inventory. Google Art Pope, heir of dollar stores. Right wing trump humping billionaire. Check out their employee wages and benefits not to mention the crappy shit they sell. In my relatively small county, there are approximately 15 dollar stores. One Wally World. So, I triple mask, choose safest hours, get what I need about once a month, and laugh under my masks at the supreme race of white folk in there. Always healthy to laugh. And, we have about a dozen gun stores, probably 40 churches. Mark Meadows and now Cawthorns district. Other than that I have thousands of acres of forests and wild areas to hike. Dont even need to drive. Can bushwhack up to unlimited trailess Forested mountains. So I put up with once a month Wally entertainment.

(15,324 posts)I've also lived in places where the natural resources and beauty were worth the hassles with the hicks that live in the surrounding towns.
All along the Appalachia spine there are places of beauty and some people that think it's where they throw their trash.
Traildogbob
(8,790 posts)Native (white) people of such amazing surroundings Care the least about it. Our Natural Resources Division at the college orchestrated with students a biannual stream cleanup, through town, and each cleanup of the 4 mile stretch took out 3,000 pounds of garbage, for 20+ years I worked there. The rural areas were much worse, with appliances and tires. And trash left in Shinning Rock Wilderness is just sickening. The worst are from hunters. Many of my backpacking trips had me carrying out more weight, their trash, than I walked in with. I still remember the commercial of the Native American with years from discarded trash and river pollution and its destruction. Its gotten worse after all the environmental legislation passed through the 70s. That generation of Earth Rangers has long gone. The ones dumping trash and fine with refrigerators in the rivers, are not liberals. Its ignorant fools that think its freedom to through trash where ya want. Best part of not using trails and adventuring out in the real wild, no trash, no people. Just me and my two black labs. But then once a month, a needed Walmart March back into reality.

(5,068 posts)I have to go there for my prescriptions, which I cut to 3 month instead of 1 to cut the times I have to by a third, but my mask is in the minority group. Since omicron I double mask. Surgical mask covered by a cloth mask is my new get up for forays outside my house. I am also back to sanitizing everything I buy before bringing it into my house. I also carry a small spray bottle of alcohol in case I have to use a restroom. I even sanitize my shoes before entering my car. You should see the stares I get by the maskless bunch of omicron spreaders when I do that. At my age, with my health issues, I can't be too careful so I mentally give them all the finger salute.

(27,464 posts)Your incident sounds just like one of those. What amazes me, is that law enforcement often takes the time to listen to the crazy person for much longer than I would. As soon as they started their sovereign citizen rant and made the inevitable claim that they knew the law better than I, I'd ask them once more to confirm they were not willing to leave, then put on the cuffs and haul them away.

(3,972 posts)I only shop there when there is no other choice. I last shopped in Walmart in 2009 when I asked a young man working there where the potting soil was. He burst into tears and said that after three years of abuse, he just couldn't take working there anymore. any place that has a large percentage of its employees on public assistance, and who has a Thanksgiving food drive FOR ITS EMPLOYEES is one totally fked-up company IMHO.
