(20,819 posts)but I'll give her credit where it's due. She's had a strained relationship with him for many years and it got even more strained when he went off the Trump Train deep end years ago; she doesn't want him around her kids and for good reason. At least she has SOME sense!

(8,361 posts)I'm not a big fan of celebrities, especially after the revelations around Harvey Weinstein, those who claimed to know nothing were no longer credible.
Jolie has my sympathy for having this wacko for a Dad.

(11,742 posts)He was a decent actor at some point. Good for him. He made money. Why should we listen to him at all? He is obviously ignorant of anything having to do with Lincoln's character and policies.
Lincoln's actions go against EVERYTHING that the Republican party stands for today. He was for the expansion of the Federal Government to improve people's lives. He eventually came to accept and fight for equality for Black people, even if his earlier work was mainly for the preservation of the Union.
If there were even such a thing as "spirits", Abraham Lincoln's spirit would stay WAY THE FUCK AWAY from someone like Trump. Maybe Richard Nixon's spirit or Andrew Jackson's, hell, I'd throw in James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson's to boot.

Trump, a NY Yankee, calls Sessions a 'dumb southerner' and they love him down there.
After all, Trump 'tells it like it is'.

(37,161 posts)...he absorbed from others around him. All it takes is a change in who he hangs out with to get him to believe something completely different.
He's talked about 9/11 being the "reason" for his shift, but that strike me as "a conservative is a liberal who got mugged"-type nonsense. Deeply-rooted personal morality and philosophy don't fall over from one traumatic blow. But if the roots aren't deep, if they're shallow, then yes it can.
And they'll latch firmly onto a new viewpoint pretty quick, especially if they get a new crow that has a bunch of easy answers.
