Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsYou Know What's Not Helping The Conversation, Aaron Rodgers ??
Saying "And you still have this fake White House set saying that this is the pandemic of the unvaccinated, that's not helping the conversation." Rodgers' statements were in response to President Biden telling a woman in Kentucky wearing a Packers hat and shirt to "tell that quarterback he's gotta get the vaccine."
Rodgers went on to add, "When the president of the United States says, 'This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,' it's because him and his constituents, which, I don't know how there are any if you watch any of his attempts at public speaking, but I guess he got 81 million votes." Does any of that word salad make sense? I think Rodgers has taken one too many hits to the head and thinks that because he makes a gabillion dollars it somehow makes him smart and stuff and people should listen to him.
Here's what's not helping the conversation ... idiots and punks like you who aren't vaccinated.
I couldn't detest him more.

I started pulling for Green Bay when Starr was the QB as soon as I was old enough to understand he played at Alabama. I might pull for Miami now because of Tua, or New England because of Mac Jones, or even the Cowboys because of Amari Cooper, and I like Dak Prescott too, even though he played at Mississippi State.

(29,949 posts)Packers are a team. Rodgers might even get MVP. All public rage wont take anything from Rodgers. It just eats at haters.

(29,949 posts)Not one player on the team spoke out against him. Probably because they are not vaccinated either. Rodgers got caught thats all.
People who love sports can care about public health whether you are over and out or not.
Like I said, I have much more virulent health offenders to dislike than one of many unvaxed sports personalities.

(7,334 posts)I understand supporting the Team, but one could reasonably do that and still not support him.
Especially in light of him lying to everyone, and then insulting The President. 10 years ago I would give a pass on this - but not in today's political climate.
Hell, I've disowned relatives because of their RW anti-vax anti-mask views.
The man is a total narcissistic dickweed ashole. Has been his whole career - not just the past year. Ask any player, media person or locker room worker who has had contact with the jerk.
He is a good athlete, but that is not nearly enough in my mind to support such a sorry person.
Disclaimer: I really really dislike Peyton Manning - same reasons I dislike Rodgers. I have been a Broncos fan since 1975. In my mind, I still refuse to give the Broncos credit for the most recent Super Bowl win with that utter asswipe behind center.

(29,949 posts)I stand by Rodgers as one of the greatest football players ever.
I think, not asking you to, pointing at Rodgers is pointing at the whole NFL.
Because they were all in on it. Banning one guy as a scapegoat seems unreasonable to me. Especially when hes one of the best ever.
Same with Clapton. Im going to play his music.
Im going to play Wild Nights by Van Morrison because I love that song.
They are crazy dilwads. Stupid and humanly dangerous to health.
But I think, not asking you to, Rand Paul and MTG, are worth getting all hetup over.
Much more dangerous than any football celebrity.

(10,724 posts)Our last quarterback texted pictures of his wang all over the place. These super star QB's don't seem to end well for us since Bart Starr.
BTW: We knew Favre was a wild child and a bit of a pig because he would carry on at the bars in the town I live in, and say all kinds of things that were repeated. This behavior out of Rodgers though is new, and radically different than he's consistently presented himself. It's really jarring. I can't believe he was always this obnoxious and combative and was able to hide it all these years. I just don't see how this isn't new behavior.

(2,403 posts)This is nothing new for Aaron Rodgers. The guy has ALWAYS been a prick douchebag. His own family cant stand him.
Edit to add: I have done some NFL media work, pressbox, field access, and postgame locker room stuff. Guy is a fuggen jerk and always has been.

(2,113 posts)About his vaccination status and flouted league protocols, endangering who knows how many immunocompromised people (&/or their immunocompromised families, friends, etc) by going maskless on the sidelines and at live press conferences. The choice of whether or not to get vaccinated is certainly his to make. The choice of risking his own health or life is certainly his to make. But he took that choice away from others when he chose to lie. And then, worse yet, he doubled down on the lie.
Comparing someone who peddles falsehoods, mistruths and LIES - and knowingly endangers the health and lives of others in the process - with someone who voiced a political opinion that, at most, might hurt someone else's feelings is a false equivalence. It's apples and oranges.
So, no, "ironic" isn't the word I would use.

All the Aaron hate is laughable. Yeah he's a jerk, but so are Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos and a slew of other people that many here idolize through the use of their products. I'd wager Facebook is responsible for far more injury to people than one Aaron Rodgers, and Amazon is in a whole different category altogether.

(9,062 posts)Counting. Counting is what's behind it.
You can count the number of vaccinated people in the hospitals versus the number of unvaccinated. You can count the number vaccinated people in the public versus the unvaccinated. Then you can compare those two ratios and see if there is a statistically significant difference (hint: there is).

(23,078 posts)But Rodgers makes me cringe. I wish he would shut up about anything other than football.
I hope the Packers win, but not for Rodgers. There are other players on the team who are good people and great athletes. Aaron Jones is a star, and he lost his father to Covid complications in the spring. If Rodgers had any respect he would realize that people all around him are losing family to Covid, and his remarks are actually harmful and hurtful.
He has a strong streak of self-pity and entitlement. He thinks that its everyone else's fault he only has one superbowl ring. But he hasn't performed well in playoff games. He is a talented player, but he is not as good as Tom Brady - who has the superbowl rings to prove his dominance in the sport. I don't like Brady much, but he's not out there saying stupid stuff.
