I had gotten out of the Navy just before he became big. I was young, single, hard bodied and ready to go and he was my groups fav. The man had talent.
I came not to bury Meatloaf, but to praise him! I'm glad he existed.

(63,221 posts)I found him vulgar, misogynistic and disgusting when he was alive and my opinion hasn't changed.
I'm not going to dance on his grave, but I really don't understand why so many people here love him.

(54,007 posts)I have seen it done here with that racist git Clapton as well, for instance.
In this case (Loaf) that doesn't even enter the equation for me as I do not like his music. Clapton the same. I dislike classic rock (which I understand is heresy on this board for a majority of posters more than likely).

(1,672 posts)Edited to add this ML quote from August 2021:
You do? You're not afraid?
Oh, Im scared to death! You kidding me? But I'm sorry, I understood stopping life for a little while, but they cannot continue to stop life because of politics. And right now they're stopping because of politics. And on CNN last night, it finally came out that the masks were all wearing are useless. But I've known that for six months. They don't do anything. They don't stop you from getting COVID. They're just a nuisance and make your nose itch and make it so you can't breathe.
The only good masks are N95. But we got one, and it was so badly made, the straps were so short, they would go on a child. So we had to go on the airplane with the paper masks and then on the way back, we got a Nazi: Get your mask on now! Theyre power-mad now.

Still nothing antivaxxer in the quote and he isn't against mask wearing either, just low quality cloth, paper and ill-fitting N95 ones.

(54,007 posts)I think the Navy they spoke of was
нно-морской флот [ВМФ]

DFW
(59,887 posts)"Тихоокеанский флот"
Literally, the fleet of the quiet ocean, or, in colloquial terms, the Pacific Ocean Fleet, probably based out of Vladivostok.
But, since I was never a fan of Mr. Loaf, as they say in Khabarovsk, мне всё равно, which, in Texan, translates out to "I don't give a rat's ass." Maybe they liked him at units 74455 or 26165 of the GRU, or they play his songs in the rest rooms at Savushkina Street 55 in SPB? Either way, I'd rather listen to the Osipov than Meat Loaf:
In the interest of disclosure, in college I played both in rock bands and with a balalaika orchestra, and the energy of the balalaika orchestra was unrivaled.
