General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsELECTIONS ARE WON ON EMOTIONAL MESSAGING! This is what our side needs to do better.
If you don't talk to people's GUTS and EMOTIONS then you LOSE.
Yes, talk about the policy accomplishments, but make it EMOTIONAL AND PERSONAL. i.e. "Tens of millions of kids are now out of poverty, if you're a parent you have more resources to provide for your kids and more breathing room, the the roads and bridges you need to drive on are being built, millions of you are back to work, Americans' wages are up across the board, our kids are now learning again in classrooms and we going to keep it that way." etc. etc.
"And what are the Republicans FOR? They say NO to dealing with climate change. They say NO to lowering the cost of prescription drugs for the eldery. They say NO to reducing student loan debt for stuggling students and families. They say NO to voting rights, and women's rights, and civil rights and NO to presesrving democracy. What are THEIR plans for dealing with Covid? What are THEIR plans for lowering inflation? What are they FOR??? They have NO plans except voter suppression and giving tax cuts to billionaires."
And then keep going with the BRANDING of the R's EMOTIONALLY: "They are attacking democracy all over the country as we speak, and they are coming after YOU. If you want to make sure you have the right to vote, THEY ARE COMING AFTER YOU. If you are woman who thinks you should make your own choices around reproduction THEY ARE COMING AFTER YOU. If you are struggling with the high cost of prescription medicine, high student loans, or childcare, THEY ARE COMING AFTER YOU. WE MUST SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY AND OUR COUNTRY FROM THIS ASSAULT."

(6,269 posts)you'll get some out, with others of course. At 74 I'm in a few days, I'm emotional at what pain the RW wants to inflict on fellow Americans. They seem a mortal enemy to me

(56,084 posts)They have spent decades and billions blowing smoke up the butts of (mostly) rural white Christian straight cis men, constantly telling them they're the real Americans and my what lovely skin they have, and that republicans are the holy patriotic all-American party and democrats are evil soc1list scum traitors.
After enough propaganda like that, the average Republican can't wrap their head around the concept that *anything* democrats do could possibly be good or that *anything* republicans do could possible not be.
100% loyalty, screw the details.
If you're bang your head against a Republican' long enough, you might get turn to admit that one particular Republican policy is bad, but it's virtually impossible to convince them not to vote republican anyway.
That require an entire shift in their worldview. A tall order.
trump, miller, bannon, what's his name RW radio tool agitated these puppets into a treasonous state for 4 long years. 1/6/21 showed just how RABID they are. The repthug psyops of 4 years has borne some hate and distrust among the less intelligent members on the RW side. Hopefully, our leaders avoid big missteps

(24,157 posts)I keep "messaging" democrats.org to come up with a message and repeat it over and over. Otherwise, the opposition owns and controls the entire discussion.
How about ending socialism for the rich? How about "One person, one vote"? How about CIVIL RIGHTS? Fair share? https://inequality.org/great-divide/tax-the-rich-global-wealth-report/ How about reflecting "My body, my choice" BUT NOT YOURS!! right back at anti-maskers and anti-vaxers https://www.vogue.com/article/my-body-my-choice-the-paradox-of-republican-anti-vaxxers who hypocritically say this?
How about any number of issues that the public really supports?
Rather than waiting for a "Watergate Moment", take the offensive. Did anyone learn from January 6th that doing the right thing now is a million times better than waiting for things to sort themselves out later?
