Newt showed everyone once again why he no longer holds office,

He's a serial liar, and a radical extremist, and fascist wanting attention, and will say anything to seem relevant again. Fascist always use this tactic against their opposition, and accuse them of what they're doing by using propaganda claims to con their followers with it.

'Lee Atwater, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, manager of George Bush's 1988 presidential campaign and a principal architect of the GOP's domination of presidential politics during the last decade, died yesterday morning at George Washington University Hospital of a brain tumor. He was 40 years old.

Trained in the politics of the Deep South by Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.), Atwater embodied in strategy and spirit the ascendant Republican Party that rose from the ashes of the landslide GOP defeat in 1964. He relished operating on the edges of propriety and to members of his party he was a genius in defining and exploiting the weaknesses of his opponents.

To his critics, however, he was a symbol of the dark side of American politics. To them, his success in elevating a black murderer-rapist named Willie Horton into a national figure used to crush the presidential bid of Michael S. Dukakis was a crude appeal to racism and the epitome of the negative campaign.'

Lee Atwater is still doing a slow turn on hell’s rotisserie (assuming hell exists, that is. Atwater doesn’t exist, which is the important part.)

He supposedly found Jesus, became born again, and then confessed and repented on his deathbed for being such an asshole... However when atwater*s "friends" were cleaning out his townhouse after the snake had died, they found the Bible that so-and-so had given him, and that supposedly was the catalyst for his christian* conversion, STILL IN THE SHRINKWRAP. atwater* was lying right to the end.
-------
Ed Rollins stated in the 2008 documentary Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story:
[Atwater] was telling this story about how a Living Bible was what was giving him faith and I said to Mary [Matalin], "I really, sincerely hope that he found peace". She said, "Ed, when we were cleaning up his things afterwards, the Bible was still wrapped in the cellophane and had never been taken out of the package", which just told you everything there was. He was spinning right to the end.

He no longer holds office because he promised the head of Bill the Clinton to the Salome Caucus and didn't deliver.*

*Yes, it was an ethics issue that caused him to resign, but that was something he could have brazened out if he could be sure of retaining the Speakership. Too many of the zealots he ushered in were looking to oust him in retaliation for failing to Bag Bill.
