(6,086 posts)I don't pretend to be able to say to anyone that they are wrong and that because they are going to hell. that's not my place. I am human and put my pants on one leg at a time, just like everyone else.

(106,212 posts)without specifying what the 'message' you are talking about is.
Did you mean to reply to this thread, perhaps? http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002162850
Ecumenist
(6,086 posts)is the message of the vast majority of Christians, including me.
muriel_volestrangler
(106,212 posts)until I suggested "don't say there is one Real Christianity". What 'this' was your OP talking about?
Ecumenist
(6,086 posts)Christianity is built on the bedrock notion that it is better than everybody else, and it has judged plenty throughout the centuries. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Ecumenist
(6,086 posts)it's adherents believe that we're better than anyone else. I'm not going to argue with you because you have your opinions based on what you've been taught and what you've seen. too many Christians don't study the bible as it was written ORIGINALLY in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. If they had, trust me, things would be VERY different.

(8,264 posts)things have always been and still are very different.

(29,047 posts)and seems to imply it is better than other types of Christianity.
Ecumenist
(6,086 posts)It is not a judgement but a statement of what it is. It is not judgmental nor insular. I've said all I'm going to say to you on the subject.

(19,108 posts)"Christian" is a self imposed term that has no clear test for validity.
Are Mormons Christian? Were Nazis Christian? Are the KKK Christian?
Each group would reply yes while other groups would say no.
"Christian" essentially has no real meaning or standards except what each individual assigns to it.
Your "Good Christian" maybe someone else's godless heathen and there is no final authority to correct either of you.

(23,051 posts)35,000 different flavours of Christianity, each one of them preaching they're the "RealChristians"
tm) and the others are wrong.
I would offer that a "RealChristian"
tm) who accuses another Christian of not being a "RealChristian"
tm) is not a "RealChristian"
tm) themselves.
Ecumenist
(6,086 posts)"judge not lest ye be judged for as ye judged so shall ye be judged." I'm trying to find the actually book, chapter and verse.

(36,988 posts)Just as the Church did when it judged there were only 4 gospels when there were over seventy gospels, acts, letters and apocalypses, all circulating in the early Church and many had strong followings but wouldn't cut the mustard for power and obedience to Roman empire.
Ecumenist
(6,086 posts)A true Christian respects others, doesn't use the Gospels to further personal desires, doesn't judge and DOESN'T cherry pick parts that they can mould and fit to their personal desires.
