https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2022/01/27/stephanie-ruhle-take-brian-williams-the-11-th-hour-msnbc/9239160002/MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle will be switching shifts on the cable network to take on Brian Williams' "The 11th Hour" slot at 11 p.m. EST.
The senior business anchor and correspondent will leave her 9 a.m. EST show, and "Morning Joe" will expand in a revamp expected to take effect this spring. Rhule will continue to appear across all NBC platforms after the switch, according to a staff memo from NBC News chief Rashida Jones, confirming earlier reports.

(10,749 posts)That's way too much.
Especially after Joe returns to his rightwing roots. It'll happen eventually.

(14,167 posts)After that it will be a rehash, like it is now with the 8 am hour. Or maybe Willie will take over an hour with a daily show like his Sunday show on NBC. I cant imagine either Joe or Mika doing four hours live every day.
I dont know why MSNBC sees fit to give MJ an extra hour, but all I can say is Im glad theyre not giving Mehdi Hasan his own show. That man grates almost as much as Rhule. Glad, too, that theyre keeping Alex Witt confined to the weekends.

(6,594 posts)She always appears tense and slightly uncomfortable. Her questioning her guests is forced, and at times rude. I cannot watch her. She is the exact opposite if Brian Williams in her delivery.

(2,892 posts)She was covering the wedding of Harry & Megan along with Katy Tur. IIRC, she started the silly shouting "Megan, Megan" like a frenzied fan and then Tur chimed in. I haven't been able to take either one seriously since.

(11,849 posts)Ari. That's maybe 2 hours if that, if I turn TV on during the day I'll watch CNN. MSNBC just doesn't cut it anymore than that.

(791 posts)She has more personality than the other hosts they tried out. although Ali Velshi is pretty good host also. Brian Williams can't be replaced, really dug that class act.

(1,648 posts)Well, this is disappointing. Ali Velshi should have gotten that spot. I can tolerate Ruhle, but just barely. The woman gets on my nerves with her exaggerated gestures, constant interruptions, and excessive emoting at human interest stories. Meanwhile, Velshi - who is brilliant - is stuck covering hurricanes and is plugged in anywhere else they need a warm body. I really dont know why he puts up with it.

(10,885 posts)He loves it, and actually volunteers to do so. For one thing, he sees this as his contribution to educating the public on climate and weather matters, which he feels are of great importance.
One example of his thinking:
I must tell you it challenges every journalistic bone in my body not to ask these people, 'What were you thinking? Why do you somehow think this wasn't going to happen to you despite all of our reporting?' It makes me want to redouble the effort to report the way that I do to show people how serious this is. It really frustrates me because people put themselves in harms way and it takes emergency services to get them rescued.

(26,744 posts)Unlike some other MANBC anchors, she often wears clothing which is very flattering. I see neither the crime in wearing it nor noticing it.
And I might compliment Mr Velshi in the same vein but Ill leave it to others to do so if so inclined
Piasladic
(1,161 posts)Just tuned into MSNBC, and Mr. Velshi is still wearing too much! Do you think he'd take some anonymous advice about showing some more skin?
Kidding aside, I think men and women should wear what they want, not be shamed, and be appreciated. However, I just get so sick of how talking about a woman's appointment to a new gig so often include a discussion of her appearance. It sounds odd when we flip it to men. I mean even men's suits are designed to cover and conceal, but women's is to expose and "flatter."

(1,161 posts)I just listen to reruns of last night's Maddow when getting ready for work. Morning Joe is bad enough as it is. I am willing to give S Ruhle a chance. Frankly though, she seems more a morning host than late night. Put her in the morning and A. Velshi at night.

(112,539 posts)Would not be my first preference but she knows the issues, especially the economic ones.
It appears that MSNBC is having a bit of a staffing problem at this time?
AngryOldDem
(14,167 posts)I cant think offhand of anyone who could host the 10-11 am slot, unless they give it to one of the news people like Lindsay Reiser, who I dont mind, actually. Everybody has their own show. Maybe make the 11-noon show two hours with that host Jose Diaz-Belart? Four hours of MJ is just too much.
Rhule is an economics expert, but still can be grating.

she'll do well with the generally liberal prime time viewers Maddow and O'Donnell draw.
She'll continue something of an economic focus. Since far-left economics tend to frequently depart from and/or ignore the realities of today's world in anticipation of a better one, some don't like her fact-based focus. Unfortunate, but alternative economics for every taste are available these days on social media.
Something I look forward to is that she should be able to leave behind the kind of conservative-leaning, low-budget MSNBC daytime "regulars" most daytime hosts tend to be stuck with. Typically the kind of hacks who were willing to work a steady gig adhering to the special "smear Hillary" rules and helping elect tRump and corrupted and lawless Repubs. Appearing on shows I won't watch.
Notably, like prime time big hitters Maddow and O'Donnell, who draw audiences twice the size of daytime that are both better informed and more liberal, Stephanie should have more say over her choices than daytime hosts typically have. It's a real move up for her. I read the 11 p.m. slot has become more competitive than it used to be, and these days with O'Donnell's connections to the Biden admin, he's a good lead-in.
