A few weeks ago cases hit 40000 a day. Yesterday it was 4600.
Hoping it continues to drop, there and everywhere.
PS: I just checked June 2021 stats. It got down to under 200 cases a day in the City. Still a long way to go

(55,510 posts)the tip of the spear in these waves, so we tend to be the ones who have to figure out how to treat the new variants. Consequently, our death rate was the highest in the country for a long time. (Now there are a few above us on that.) But that makes it SO important that our governor doesn't mess around with this. I am relieved Hochul is committed to that.
I'll vote for her.

Daily deaths may have reached the peak at 111.

(13,788 posts)a wild ride here. But amazing turnaround. Despite schools being open in person. I'm grateful we use mitigation strategies while prioritizing kid's needs.
I know a lot of people were worried that once schools opened back up after the holidays it would further drive spread. It hasn't. Numbers have dramatically declined.
Friday night my husband and I ate out for the first time since the Omicron wave escalated. There is a change in the air with declining cases, and I'm really grateful.

(55,510 posts)What a relief! Time to schedule all the doctor appointments I've been putting off.
But it feels like every other person I know got it in this wave. Hopefully that gives them some added protection against future variants. (I don't know anyone who is not vaxxed.)

(32,447 posts)I have tickets for the ballet next Saturday. One of my favorites: Romeo and Juliet. You have to show your vaccine card or proof of negative PCR within 72 hours AND wear a mask, but I'm still not going. Not with the positivity rate so high. There are just too many breakthrough cases and I don't want to be one of them.

(12 posts)New York's COVID face mask mandate has been extended until Feb. 10, as the state Appellate Court has begun hearing arguments on its legality. I think masks are critical to be able to lower the daily case rate. It blows my mind someone sued to prevent mandatory masks in a densely populated city like NYC. I don't know who brought the lawsuit and I don't agree with the judge who ruled mask mandates to be unconstitutional. I have hope the appellate court is more rational.
