Michael Anthony Gallagher, 71, pleaded guilty last August to mailing a threatening postcard to Rep. Maxine Waters, signed KKK, but his crimes from 2016 to 2020 went well beyond that single offense. The U.S. Department of Justice argued a one-year probation term, and no jail, was a sufficient consequence.
In a sentencing memo, prosecutors say that over four years Gallagher sent at least 75 similar threats to politicians all over the United States, targeting those who were critical of former President Donald Trump. Gallagher wrote an apology letter saying, I am painfully sorry and ashamed.
One postcard, included in a sentencing memo, told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Were going to hang your head off the Washington Monument, you piece of Communist (expletive). Another called Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer a Communist pig and threatened to shoot him in the head.

(112,417 posts)The impression that I received from the portions that you pasted together was that the man received probation, but when I clicked the link the opening paragraph stated that the judge gave him a four month jail sentence.

(21,402 posts)the judge ignored them and gave a prison sentence. The DOJ was arguing for a lighter sentence because of the man's age. Hey, that's good to know, I'm 74 so I have a get out of jail card.

(Of course, even if he doesn't consider himself a Christian, threats like this are not only inappropriate, but ILLEGAL! Where's his sense of "law and order?" )

(7,286 posts)"Locks Up" implies a somewhat meaningful time incarcerated.
While 4 months behind bars as opposed to the Prosecutors suggestion of a year probation is more significant than no time incarcerated, the only newsworthy aspect to me, is the fact that it apparently took four years to charge and prosecute this cretin.
Why in the hell did it take 4 years, and why did DOJ suggest a year in probation?
Seriously effed up.
If it was a BLM allogation, the suspect would have been arrested, locked up before trial, and never released on bail.

Real crimes, ones that move America toward fascism, are ignored. But manufactured accusations against people who are work for progressive change are willingly pursued and by God, punished.
