... how pathetic was Trump's performance tonight?
He's actually begging his supporters to march in the streets - not in support of his claims of a stolen election, not in solidarity with their their Dear Leader who was unjustly deprived of his rightful second term, not in protest of the fraudulent votes that elected Biden - but as a show of force against his being prosecuted for crimes he's actually committed.
The reference to his prosecutors being 'racist' was an especially bizarre touch, given that most of his supporters are racists and naturally sympathize with their fellow bigots - not to mention the fact that racists don't normally seek to prosecute old, fat, rich white men - but I digress.
What The Slobfather was asking for was that his minions protect him - the Great & Mighty Stable Genius - from the meanies who are compiling evidence against him. He did not protest his innocence, he did not suggest that investigations would eventually exonerate him of any wrongdoing. His only aim was to rile up a crowd he thought would be sympathetic to his whiningly-delivered entreaties to keep the schoolyard bullies from kicking his ass.
In promising pardons to the January 6th insurrectionists, what his Orangeness failed to take into account is that everyone has already seen his disregard for them up to now. The self-proclaimed billionaire never posted bail for a single rioter, nor did he fund anyone's legal defense - and promising anything contingent on his being re-elected pOTUS is pretty much confirming that it's never going to happen.
So will Trump's dwindling group of supporters take to the streets to protest the alleged abuse of their Dear Leader? I doubt it. If there's one thing he's taught them, it's that you don't put your neck out if there's nothing in it for you - and there's nothing in it for anyone who's dumb enough to march in solidarity with a man whose only defense is that he's being persecuted for crimes he has no defense for.
As for that scale of 1 to 10, I'd say it's an 11. It's that one more boost of volume that has-been politicians hope will resonate with what's left of their audience.

(35,364 posts)following him around like a puppy dog he would be forgotten. I turned on MSNBC yesterday, there was
his rally being covered on the "Liberal Media".
It was the mainstream media that got him elected in 2016. Out of the 18 Republican contenders the media focused solely on Trump. They followed him around like a puppy dog always asking, "What's Trump saying now?" and "What's Trump doing now?" They gave him billions of dollars worth of campaign ads. I found it maddening.
And even though Trump has been out of office for over a year the media still rushes to attend his rallies and reports his every utterance. Why? Ignore the orange loser!

That old saying, "Don't take it personally it's only business." Is a way of removing any moral obligation. You can do anything if it is only business.

(111,110 posts)For the insurrection of January 6th.
It was obvious from his comments that he believes he has the power to "incite" these folks to violence once again. He knows he was responsible for inciting the violence on January 6th. He believes he has the power to do it again.
He needs to be charged and brought before a judge, and the sooner the better for our country.
What he did tonight was an admission of guilt - "I incited the January 6th mob - and I'm proving it by trying to do it again."

People are saying that the DOJ is doing nothing to stop him. I say they're giving him more rope with which to hang himself. He just can't help himself, and they know it.

(21,402 posts)it's no joke folks. Laugh all you want but we have a man who wants to end our democracy, who wants to imprison anyone who doesn't support him, travelling around the country continuing the insurrection.
I think what he is doing is horrific and fucking scary. His actions show me that he is not afraid, not worried about being held accountable and he is flaunting it in all of our faces.
It's no joke folks.
