The polio vaccine was first widely disseminated in 1955, and Young was one of the beneficiaries. As he recently wrote on his website, I was vaccinated for POLIO at my school in Canada. Nothing new about vaccines. They have been there for a long time. Like me! Trust Science.

(12,786 posts)I was born a few years after the polio vaccine was available.. What a difference a few years can make in your life.
God it makes me so worried about my anti-vaxxer stepdaughter. She has 3 beautiful little girls that she has never gotten vaccinated for anything. She homeschools and so far none of them have caught anything worse than chicken pox. But good luck, herd immunity and country living only go so far.
Of course she and her hubby have had all their vaccines, except for adult vaccines. We and his parents made sure of it. I could never be comfortable knowing my children were so vulnerable to disease. I worry about those kids. They don't get a choice. It seems like child abuse to me.

(1,154 posts)It gives us something in common. I caught it in '52, almost died. I'm still here, and walking, and the doctors don't have a clue as to why.
