(9,670 posts)When he had the chance to admit a mistake, he doubled down on it. Over and over and over again.
He's not gaining strength as time goes on. He's losing it and his support will wane. Our anxiety is totally understood after 4 years in which he was apparently untouchable because of the role he played in our federal government.
But that gravy train has left the station. The circumstances are different now and like any felon under investigation, everything he says and does right now is a part of the record.
Trump is going down.

(768 posts)Let's say Trump dies tomorrow - does anyone really believe that the Radical Right is going to deviate from their mission of one-party rule, which they have been working toward for 50 years or more?
We should never underestimate the capabilities of our enemy. They are gaining more confidence every day, and they have learned a lot from the failed coup attempt of 2020.

(9,670 posts)He often admonished me not to just cut off the part of the weed above the ground since the roots would remain and a new weed would sprout to take its place.
We're going to have to pull this weed from the ground, roots and all, every single weed in the garden. And when a new season of weeds comes to America, we'll need to repeat this over and over again.

(36,509 posts)However, his incarceration/death would take some of the wind out of their sails while the party fought over who should reign. And incarceration would whip up some badly needed enthusiasm on our side.

(768 posts)And it's not just Trump. Plenty of "Republicans" ready willing and able to dump our Constitution in the trash and put us under the boot. They have the momentum, the roadmap, and the propaganda machine to make it happen.
Little we can do to prevent this now, the guardrails should have been strengthened decades ago. But we whistled on past the graveyard pretending it was business as usual when anyone with half a brain could see this coming.
