It is important that our laws are obeyed and that people who break them are held responsible. But all it takes is one Trump supporter on a jury who refuses to convict somebody. There would be nothing stopping Trump from running for president while in prison. What is more important is convincing a strong majority of the people that the current Republican Party is unacceptable because it is dangerous. When this happens, they will be so badly beaten at the polls that the gerrymandering and voter suppression ploys won't matter. This is the best way to stop them. Hopefully , the select committee will accomplish this.

(114,475 posts)If Republicans like Cheney lose their primaries it makes it harder to keep committee bipartisan and will scare off other Republicans willing to confront Trumps guilt.

as you say, there is more chance of a mistrial by hung jury (interpreted as "total vindication"
