In one of her more high-profile cases, Judge Childs struck down a South Carolina rule during the 2020 election that would have required a witness to sign absentee ballots, a move intended to make it more onerous to vote, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.U.S. District Court Judge J. Michelle Childs ordered the state Election Commission to immediately inform voters about the removal of the requirement. Childs said South Carolina voters would risk exposing themselves to COVID-19 if they voted in person, and that they could also expose the witnesses required to sign their ballots.
The evidence in the record points to the conclusion that adherence to the Witness Requirement in November would only increase the risk of contracting COVID-19 for members of the public with underlying medical conditions, the disabled, and racial and ethnic minorities, Childs wrote.
The ruling followed a lawsuit filed by state and national Democratic Party organizations, along with several individual voters, against the state Election Commission.

In December 2021, she rejected a request to enjoin a vaccine mandate from workers at a nuclear facility in South Carolina. She ruled that the company did not have to continue employing someone who refused to get vaccinated amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs denied a sought-after preliminary injunction and restraining order, explaining in a 39-page document why the plaintiffs failed to convince her to take extraordinary action.
Childs was not persuaded that the vaccine rules imposed by the top contractor at the Savannah River Site were tantamount to the unlawful practice of medicine in South Carolina a pillar of the plaintiffs argument and emphasized no one was being forcibly vaccinated.

U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs in Columbia ruled in favor of two women who sued to have the state to recognize their marriage performed in Washington, D.C. Childs ruled the state's failure to recognize their marriage was unconstitutional.
The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of a 4th Circuit decision allowing same-sex marriage in Virginia, opening the way for same-sex marriages in other states. South Carolina continued to defend its ban and was the only state in the circuit not permitting them.
At that time, probate judges in two South Carolina counties began accepting applications for same-sex marriage licenses. The state Supreme Court quickly ordered that no licenses be issued before a decision in the Columbia case.
The state's high court lifted its stay, and said Childs' decision resolved the case.

The most news worthy points that seem to be omitted completely by lesser journos.
Yes, Clyburn again endorsed wisely.
He was correct with Chisholm for President in 72, & he's correct today with Childs.
