staging a protest in Florida. I responded by making a donation to Michigan's Jewish Holocaust center. If you want to join in this here is a link. https://29862.blackbaudhosting.com/29862/DONATIONS or you could google your local organization and do the same.
PS. I am an atheist so, donating to a religious organization is not something i do under normal circumstances.

(2,949 posts)but i felt completely comfortable making my donation. Just posted the atheist stuff to emphasize my concern. There is an active thread on here right now discussing whether Judaism is a race or a religion. I consider it a religion.

(33,643 posts)I share your atheistic tendencies, so I know what you mean about having something of a reticence ... I'm just saying that shouldn't stop anyone in a case like this, since really it's not a clear-cut donation to a religious organization

Very unsettling to be Jewish these days.

(14,570 posts)It was 1995, and I was there on business. My ex-wife and I took an afternoon and toured the Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Silence. There were people there, but no one was really talking. Everyone instead made their way through the somber displays.
We stood staring down at the shoes. Piles of them. Old, dry, rotted. I thought about the people that wore them, and the way they suffered and died. Children. Women. Men.
When we went back outside, the sun seemed strangely bright in the clear blue sky, as if to somehow assuage the horror of what we had seen in the dim museum. There was a bench and we sat down.
Neither of us felt like breaking the silence, so we just sat for a time, maybe an hour. Then we left.
What is wrong with these people, these American Nazis? How can anyone be so twisted?
