if they did, they probably wouldn't try it in the first place....

besides, donnie has always been rather obvious in many ways. his lies, abuse, disrespect, and criminality are all pretty blatant. he has always gotten away with it not by covering it up but by bullying to get his way.

They tried to pull off something that has never been done in the United States before, having to invent the playbook as they went along, and

!) They almost pulled it off and...

2) None of the major players have faced any significant consequences yet one year after the fact.

3) They are still well positioned to keep perfecting their playbook and making real progress toward Coup 2.0

A coup in a well established democracy with no history of significant political instability for well over a century is incredibly difficult to execute. It is a long shot at best. With more practice they might be able to cover their tracks better, but covering their tracks wasn't a top priority - pulling off the coup was, and pulling off a coup requires taking real risks. If a coup succeeds the number of tracks they left is rendered moot.

The Coup plotters still have a fanatical army of grassroots supporters that is growing if anything. They still have a massive and well functioning propaganda machine working to consolidate that support. They have solidified their hold on one of America's two major political parties, on the local, state, and national levels. It is entirely plausible that Republicans can gain control of Congress next year, and that Trump or someone like him may become President in 2024. If that happens the odds favor the final coup succeeding.

If Coup 1.0 leaves them stronger than they were before it was launched, and if core elements of it advance in the 2022 elections to take control of State based election machinery, and if almost no if any major players get imprisoned (with the real hope of a presidential pardon in 2024 should they somehow get imprisoned after a drawn out legal process) what was inept about Coup 1.0?
