If "Republicans" win the House, the Senate, the presidency, in 2024, is our democracy finished?

They control the Supreme Court.

The first thing they will do in the Senate will be to abolish the filibuster.

They are rigging the 2022 election in plain sight.

Talk me off this ledge. They just purged 60,000 Democrats from the voter rolls in Georgia.

They have show us that there is nothing that they stand for except for the lust for power. They will attempt to make America Great Again if it kills us. We are so close to the edge of the end of Democracy already, it won't take much of a push. The Republican Fascist are monsters; it is not like we haven't been warned:

It is something we should be really, really scared of, and something we need to work hard to prevent.

We need turnout at 2018/20 levels going forward, starting this year in 2022.

obviously, they can do far more damage far more quickly with the house and senate as well.

but even with just the presidency, over the course of 4 years a fascist president can thoroughly corrupt the entire bureaucracy.

most directly, thought shuffling around people in the military, they could engineer a more cooperative leadership for a coup.

aside from that, they could use the doj as a weapon for personal advantage, going after political opponents and their families to extort cooperation, etc.

they could turn the fda into a shakedown tool for corporate donations.

we've already seen them try to use the usps for voter suppression, they could amp this way up.


there's a *lot* they could do to end real elections.


as long as our media continues to paint today's republican party as a party that deserves equal standing and respect with the democratic party, as long as they give voice to their lies, as long as they refuse to call them out on their crazy, we're in huge trouble.

This is what disgusts me the most watching what is happening here in our country. Think about all the soldiers that died in WWI and WWII to stop fascism from reaching our shores.

If these fascists do dump our Constitution in the trash and establish an autocracy, should they simply bulldoze Arlington? Or will they enjoy giving a daily "fuck you" to all the patriots that lie at rest in that hallowed ground?

3 weeks ago, say that there is still time, but very little. He was talking about the Senate passing the voting rights bills. Elias said he can't stop the rigging on his own. Well guess what, he is one fantastic guy but he is all we got.

The Supreme Court will side with the fascists. 3 members of the court have already voiced the opinion that states have an absolute right to run their own elections.

It's hard to gerrymander Senate races and the presidential race. In the 2022 Senate Races and the 2024 presidential race, Democrats will be running against people who supported Trump and his coup. Democrats should be able to destroy them with TV ads and during their debates.

The 2022 elections will most likely be all about the Big Lie, people who have been indicted, people who are on trial, been convicted, the coup. That is not going to go well for the Republicans, especially in the Senate races.

I know my county purges the list due to moves and deaths. If someone is mistakenly purged the letter notifies them and they register again. Not great, but doable.

Yes, they can re-register. If they find out early enough before the election. Then it's a process, and they might make a mistake at some point, after encountering more hassles.

And voters can stand in long lines or travel relatively far to vote if they've been affected by the way republicans move around voting systems and sites to their advantage.

Many will jump through all the hurdles and vote anyway. But with each hassle, some people screw up or give up or the clock runs out.

That's how they win.

This has been coming for a long time, many decades really. But it became glaringly clear during the Obama Presidency that the Fascist Right was putting their plan into high gear.

I'm a realist. In my opinion we need to be thinking about what we will do after the coup, whether that happens in 2024 or 2028. There will be chaos all over the world, not just in the USA when this comes to pass. The biggest fear is our economy - because once a legitimate election is overturned, our stock market will go into free fall and any financial security you have today could be gone with the wind.

The story of the rigging is in the news and not for the reason you might think.

I'd like to think the media carries the stories of Jan. 6, 2022 is because the invaders made themselves so blatant: it's scary to look at, to hear the stories about the destruction, defecation, outlandish costumes, etc. it is hard to discount, trivialize or lie about it happening.

We must continue. People will forget. Don't let them! Every day, let the news drip, drip, drip. Connect the dots EVERY DAY. Hunt down those stories and brandish them on TV news programs (looking at you MSNBC).

Grind them in the dust. Don't let the media turn their eyes away from what really happened.

I realize that this is the counterbalance to all your other posts chastising the DOJ and Merrick Garland for not stepping up the pace and for keeping us in the dark. None of us is able to discern whether he is on the ledge with us all, or if he is as aloof about it as the mainstream media.

We need to keep making noise. We need to continue to be a nuisance to those who want to calm us all down. The doomsday scenario you spell out is as real as the Trump presidency was real. No one could have ever predicted that, but now that it's behind us, there is nothing that the fascists won't do in their pursuit of unilateral governance.
