First, let's recognize that even on his best days, Trump seems like a cornered animal with a tenuous grip on reality. However, I don't feel like I've ever seen him as unhinged and scared as he seems right now. And that really is saying something. I don't know if I have just been reading way too many Jan 6th related updates in the past few days which is distorting my perception of what's going on with Donny Diaperload, so that is why I want to see what other people think. Is it just me or does he seem absolutely terrified and completely deranged? His erratic behavior combined with the revelatios trickling out of the House committee and news from New York and Gerogia seem to be pointing at something substantial. Are the walls actually closing in on him or is it just more of the same old shit from the Orange Clown?

(115,943 posts)He's never seemed anywhere close to normal, but his not-normal speechifying used to be mostly just mean and hateful and lie-infested. Lately, though, he sounds genuinely mad, like load him up with Thorazine and cart him off to a quiet place with padded walls mad. It's more the tone than the actual content, though. He sounds more crazed and desperate than just rageful and venomous.

(7,715 posts)He can't stop this for the next three years. EVEN if the Ds lose the House and/or Senate in November 2022, which I still don't think is a foregone conclusion, all of the House findings will make their way to the Justice Department, including the US Attorney offices around the country and the FBI. The Ds will control those agencies until January 20, 2025 at the earliest. He can be further investigated and prosecuted for three more years. There is no way he can withstand that.
Trump can't stop this. He could when he was President, but he can't now.
And the courts don't look to be giving him any kind of break.

(43,442 posts)and flawed they may be. He really does think he can sell these arguments to the public, turning the tactics of rule of law against rule of law itself and replacing it with his own view of the legal system where he is unimpeded. He has long experience at fighting laws - that's what developers and landlords do - fight the government to make things cheaper, easier for their own businesses.

(32,853 posts)Back when Chump was the Prezz, the journos used to take his "word salads" and edit them into something that sounded somewhat intelligent. At least it seemed he was speaking in complete sentences then. But to anyone who actually listened to his words - even then - nothing he said ever made sense. He never completed a thought, ever. His speeches and remarks were always garbage, but the journalists prevented most of us from realizing it. Also his White House staff used to rewrite everything for him. Now they aren't doing it any more and it's easy to see how scrambled his brain is.
Yes he REALLY IS that crazy, and he was just like that while he was leading our nation.

But it will be the biggest and most perfect case file in the universe. Millions of only the best people will come to admire it.

(17,709 posts)He has shown us for years that he is an ignorant and evil clown with Fascist principals. The man is insane but, with support of his followers, he remains somewhat functional.
Trump is not our biggest problem; it is the rise of radical conservatism, the willingness of masses of Americans to throw our Democracy out the window, that is the real issue. Trump is just the poster boy...for now. Following the fall of Trump, which is more likely to be brought about by Big Macs than our system of justice, there are other Fascist bastards lined up to take his place. Who knows, there may be a silver tongued charismatic leader among them that will have us goose-stepping into the history of the decline and fall of Democracy in the West.
I am an old man, I have lived long enough, I won't have to deal with it. However if the young and middle aged people don't wake up to what is happening, if they don't begin too feel some sense of urgency about the open attempts to destroy Democracy, they will be doomed to live under a Nacht und Nebel government. The "Republicans" are following an historical blueprint. The warnings signs are clear.
Your papers please.

(6,635 posts)Yeah, this goes far beyond that. I'm guessing he's never been this close to handcuffs before, and he's getting pretty desperate.
Those 4 years in office heightened his sense of indestructability, but stuff is getting too real for him now - and he's absolutely terrified.
Isn't that GREAT?
