(30,613 posts)I'm surprised Kennedy feels that way. His favorite 6 Justices apparently do not know nor respect the Constitution, and are rewriting it all the time.

(19,193 posts)Like women spend their entire lives looking through clothing catalogs. 🙄
Most women I know are too damned busy to look at a clothing catalog.
Kennedy is among the worst republicans in Washington, and that's saying quite a lot, considering the current crop of republican numbskulls taking up space in the halls of Congress.

(31,810 posts)Like - seriously . . .
Judicial Committee appointment aside - it's funny how many of Biden's judicial nominees have received a green light.
Terribly sad for the people of Louisiana that have to live with this asshole as their Senator.

(11,730 posts)Thing is Tommy Tuberville seems to have learned to keep his mouth shut. Kennedy actually thinks he is intelligent and has something to say.

(6,169 posts)I like people who have woke up.
When they're asleep they can't make informed decisions.
When they are ignorant of the truth they can't make intelligent, thoughtful decisions.
Kennedy apparently likes brain dead sleep walkers...or should I say political zombies.
Caliman73
(11,730 posts)That is what being woke is about. Being awake to the legacy that racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, Nativism, etc... have played in this country and continue to play.
When you are "Woke" to the fact that rich White Protestant Christian men have set up systems to obtain and maintain financial, legal, and social power, then you can join together to try to dismantle those systems.
I doubt that any of President Biden's nominees shop at J. Crew and given their records, they certainly know the insides and outs of law books. As far as the Constitution, their "Woke" agenda would likely be to actually make good on what is actually written in the damn thing and what has been set as precedent through case law.
Kennedy wants things to be as they had been prior to the 1860's with a sprinkling of the 1880's to the 1920's with the anti-immigration laws.

(42,693 posts)Some of the other times he's referred to J. Crew (there probably are others):
November 2021:I am pro-life. I am anti-Roe v. Wade. . . . But, Mr. President, even pro-choice legal scholars who believe in legalized abortion on demand understandas does every fair-minded person who knows a law book from a J. Crew catalogthat Roe v. Wade is one of the most arbitrary, its one of the most ad hoc, its one of the most poorly-reasoned decisions in the history of the United States. Anyone, Mr. President, who knows a law book from a J. Crew catalog also knows that theres absolutely no foundationnot in the text, not in the structure, not in the history, not in the tradition of the Constitutionfor a constitutional right to abortion, and certainly not on the basis of some unmoored general right to privacy thats not enunciated in the Constitution.
April 2021: "Anybody who knows a law book from a J.Crew catalog knows that Democrats attempt to add D.C. as a state is unconstitutional."
February 2020 (during first Trump impeachment trial): A"nyone who knows a lawbook from a J. Crew catalog does not take this charge seriously."
November 2019: "any lawyer, in my judgment, who knows a law book from a J. Crew catalog knows that a- a sterile transcript is no substitute for live witnesses."
May 2019: Anybody who knows a law book from a J. Crew catalog knows Roe v. Wade was one of the most poorly reasoned decisions in the history of the United States Supreme Court.
