On January 7th, I went to Mayo Clinic

and got a covid test, The nurse who did the test asked me if I wanted a regular flu test also, since I had symptoms. I said go ahead, thinking it was only a simple test so shouldn't be very expensive. Yesterday I received notice from my insurance company that the cost of the flu test was $359.00, and the portion I have to pay will be $323.10. While I can afford it, this is beyond ridiculous for a test I could have gotten at a drug store for around $25-$50 or so. How is this sustainable? You either have to be destitute to to get medical assistance or wealthy so you can pay, even with insurance. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is insanity.

I asked the doctor how much it would cost.

He went off and checked and said it was $42,
so I went ahead and took it.

And then I never received a bill for it

Go figure.

I always ask how much things cost, and for
my doctors to check with my medicare
advantage plan provider.
