I will say it again. DeSantis is not unintelligent or ignorant. He believes that enough Republicans are unintelligent, ignorant, or simply racist, that it is to his benefit not to condemn Nazis. He is doing everything in his power to pick fights with President Biden, Democrats, and anyone on the "Woke Left".

He is not doing this to sound like a "statesman" to a wide audience. As Rachel said in her lead up, it is standard practice to simply condemn Nazis. It doesn't take a lot of thought or effort. It is one of the easiest things a politician can field. "How do you feel about Nazis?" "I condemn them. They have a horrible ideology" Simple.

Not when your base is made up of racially biased people. Not when you know your policies don't help anyone but the wealthiest people. You have a small but very active and constantly aroused followers. You have to keep them active and then work to disenfranchise enough voters on the other side so that you can win elections with a smaller voting base.

That is the plan. He will double down because if he condemns Nazis, he is telling the base that their similar views are bad, and that means that he is not "real" to them.

I never doubted TFG would go down this path. A month later touting his German genes. There were a lot of klinkers - things that just stood out because they sounded off-tune, things that no middle of the road American politician would say.

Never a doubt.

I'll miss her while she's gone. No one is as good at breaking down the news.

Nazis are a key part of DeathSantis' base

Ron DeSantis thinks that being asked to condemn neo-Nazi demonstrators is playing “their game.” Instead of doing the right thing and clearly condemning a group supporting genocide and white supremacy, he made it completely about himself, his own grievances, and pettiness.

DeSantis did call the Demonstrators “jackasses” and “malcontents,” but he never condemned their ideology.

He never pushed back against their white supremacy.

Anyone paying attention to our Florida state legislative session can deduce why.

Florida Republicans and Ron DeSantis are working hard to make Florida an intolerant place. They are pushing bills to ban the discussion of LGBTQ topics in schools. They want to prohibit discussion regarding Florida’s racist past that causes “discomfort” to whites. They want parents to be able to sue schools and libraries to remove books from curriculums if they disagree with the topics.

It’s in this sort of environment that hatred is emboldened. It would be nice for Ron DeSantis to take a break from talking about the made-up threat of critical race theory and instead clearly denounce the actual threat of Nazi demonstrators in our communities.

and they've not only got to get their people worked up to defeat us they have to keep them that way.

Since neonazis are (faaar) RW, it'd be a strategic error to distract RW voters from Democrats and invite them to examine what they're associating with these days.

Not to defend DeSantis in any way. Just to point out he's in it to win.

Putin also uses militant extremists, including neo-Nazis, to destabilize countries he targets, including ours, but he doesn't allow them to run wild in Russia.

6. Agreed! The only acceptable thing to do with Nazis is throw them in the dumpster!

Black women are convenient targets. She was nuanced enough to explain her point, but I understand what she was saying while acknowledging that she left room for misinterpretation.

Nazis attacking hospitals and doctors - WTF!!

It wasn't a malicious place, just a misinformed one. The punishment did not fit the "crime" here. Meanwhile, that smarmy Fish Stick Boy is off cavorting with actual white-power fascists, and that's a-okay. Fucking disgusting.
