Why Joe Rogan Matters

We are a culture which elevated a conman TV host to the presidency. We will be recovering from that for decades. And the sickness in which he trawled isn't cured. It's going stronger than ever, aided and abetted by a political party which has given itself over to nihilism.

What Neil Young and his peers are doing in reaction to Rogan is essential. It is the first grumbling of people being fed up with the decadence into which our society has fallen. Usually, talk of "decadence" is something which gets the right riled up. But we are in a decadent phase of our civilization. We honor people of no import, who contribute nothing to society except entertainment. Rogan was paid $100m by Spotify for exclusive rights to his podcast. People compete on Love Island, or Survivor, and become rich and famous. But we can't pay nurses or teachers what they're worth, what the jobs they do actually merit for the contributions they make to society.

... to be fact checked real time on their shows.

Rogan does something similar to this when he goes to the internet to fact check himself and guest and his audience eats it up.

Except for when it comes to COVID I don't understand how the disconnect has been allowed EXCEPT for the fact Rogan doesn't bring credible doctors on the show to talk about the issues regarding covid.

I made the mistake of listening to him years ago about diets. Even then he came across as an idiot.

I can't believe Spotify. I cancelled my subscription.

We live in a post truth world and Joe Rogan is at the tip of the spear right now. And Joe knows better, he is smart enough to know the truth on matters like Covid and Climate Change. He knows his audience, his schtick is "I'm just asking questions, listening to all sides." He's become unfathomably rich working this schtick.

He started out on his podcast talking about things like hunting, sports, martial arts, and even particle physics, but he went more towards politics as he's gone along. He's no longer "listening to all sides", he's simply bringing on Right Wing Loonies at a rate of 10 to 1 vs people from the left. His producers are keenly aware of what brings him the ratings, and it's Rightwing conspiracy theories and anti science nonsense.

He matters because he has 50 million listeners who think he makes a ton of sense. He matters because he mixes a lazy attitude towards the truth with enough pseudo intellectual snark that people think he's an authority. And he's just "asking the questions" so he bears no responsibility in his own mind for the deaths he is causing. Joe Rogan is powerful, he knows he is, he's choosing to use that power to make the country worse because that tact also makes him richer.

the first was a lie, controlled by "the four corners of deceit" (media, government, academia and science), the other was "where we are," and "where reality reigns supreme."

Decades of this sort of propaganda brought us to where we are today.

Goebbels believed that radio was the most effective way of putting over a message. The public had to leave home to go to the cinema while some simply did not read a newspaper and Goebbels was less confident that newspapers were the perfect form of spreading the message.

Isn't much different, then vs now, people don't read, they take the internet and what celebrities say as gospel

Their focus is on expanding podcasting and moving away from music.

Roman is symptomatic of what media has become. Spotify may claim that they are not media but the reality is that they are. What moves the needle has become the entire foundation of media.
