Im still using it and some other people are, but not everybody.
I can go either way, but I dont see why I should have to use two extra key strokes if a bunch of other people are doing it. 😂

(21,947 posts)it was pointed out to me that it's a polite thing to do for people who use My Posts a lot.
When you check the My Posts page you can see the subject lines of replies to you. It can be mildly annoying to click on one of those subject lines and then find that the person who replied added no additional text.
But if they put (nt) in the title, you know you don't need to click through...

(90,683 posts)Because thats what I started out with. I couldnt load some of our epically long threads at all, and had to click each post. So I appreciated the courtesy of the (nt) and have done likewise.

And if I posted the OP, or it's a thread started by someone else that I'm particularly interested in, I'll click on the OP again and just skim down to catch all the replies and subthreads quickly.

(68,566 posts)I thought it was used because of the old slow internet which took a long time to load and all...that is not the case now. Thus I don't use but if Duer's think I should, I certainly will...no big deal either way for me.

(65,040 posts)I'm sure I've flubbed now & then, forgetting to use it.
But, mostly I use it for the reason EarlG stated above.
As a regular "My Posts" user (I like to reply when I get replied to, as a courtesy to the person replying. If there's an "nt" there, they likely aren't expecting a reply.)

(70,691 posts)Unless I'm wrong, it was supposed to be in the Subject line, supposedly to alert the readers there was nothing in the body of the post. I say "supposedly" because once you're in the thread the whole post is visible. The only useful part would be for somebody looking only at the list of Subjects, clicking on selected individual Subject titles, with the "n/t" signaling nothing to waste a click for nothing more in the post.
A use defeating the purpose is to put the "n/t" in the BODY of the message, since that location is too late to save on clicking.
As for saving strokes in the Subject line, yeah more often than not all the space is needed for the Subject.
**** Since we're in Meta territory, here's something: We have some esteemed members who specialize in their own opinionating, different from links to reportage/journalism. Sometimes the OPINION o.p. is misleading, something like, "GARLAND is waiting for the Committee's report." If we don't know it is from one of the known opinion members, it sounds like it's a NEWS item with a link inside to the journalism outlet. But click on it, and it turns out to be a member *speculating" about what he/she thinks might happen. It would help to start the Subject title with "OPINION".

(10,197 posts)I dont use it often myself, but I think it wouldnt hurt to occasionally post some of the informal rules and shorthand used here. I got a lot of sarcastic answers, not mean but sort of joking. You tend to figure things out over time but I think it would be a helpful service.
