The obvious through-line with Trump re: Russia 2016 and Ukraine 2019...

Getting “dirt” on his Democratic opponents no matter what the source, and in the process jeopardizing US foreign policy, national security, and creating all kinds of conflicts of interest.

And the saddest, pettiest part of it all is: it was based on insane right-wing conspiracy theories. Missing Hillary emails! Biden family corruption! Ukrainian collusion with Democrats in 2016! CrowdStrike and a missing server(??)!

Obviously the Trump-Kushner crime family has all kinds of corrupt business deals with Russia as well as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Israel, and other countries, as well as outright organized crime here in the US. That’s basically all been proven, even if these fuckers are usually careful enough not to directly incriminate themselves in a way that can lead to actual criminal liability. But you don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist or even have an active imagination to recognize the through-line here.

Bottom line: Trump doesn’t care how awful someone is as long as he thinks they can help HIM personally—both financially and politically. Nazis and QAnon extremists? At least they like Trump, “very fine people.” Putin and other dictators? “They say nice things about me and they’re very strong leaders.” Batshit conspiracy theorists and hangers-on like Rudy Giuliani? “He defends me on TV and looks for dirt on my opponents and has been very strong against the RIGGED ELECTION!” January 6 rioters and domestic terrorists? “They fought like hell for me! I love them!”

There is no core to “Trumpism” except for what’s in it for HIM personally. The ultimate amoral/immoral narcissist. Fuck him!

TFG saw it as a win-win situation.

Manipulated and flattered? Sure, absolutely. But it’s not like TFG has been in any way an unwilling participant in any of this criminality, this treason.

Quite the opposite, in fact; He BRAGS about how great a relationship he has with the Basket of Deplorable Dictators like Putin and MBS et al. After all, he wants to be one of them. He’s not a fan of democracy, as we have seen demonstrated time and time again—most dramatically with the events of early last year, and the whole tortured transition period really.
