Caught On Camera: Couple Spews Anti-Asian Slurs In Newport Beach Parking Lot

Lunar New Year is a time of celebration and new beginnings, but Eugene Moy’s Lunar New Year celebrations were cut short when he saw the viral and now infamous video of the couple yelling thing, like, “Go back to China!” in the parking lot of Fashion Island in Newport.

The couple can also be seen making obscene gestures at the man taking the video. The original TikTok user has now made their account private, but the video went viral on Twitter.

The man making the hurtful remarks was quickly identified as Roger Miller, an employee of the City of Coronado. Also in the video is his wife, Sandra, a teacher at a private school in Riverside County.

“It’s just unfortunate that children can be exposed to these kinds of attitudes,” said Moy.

Moy is active in the Asian American community. As a founding member of Riverside’s Save Our Chinatown Committee, he fought to stop a developer from building a medical office on a Riverside Chinatown archeological site.

What I find more frightening is this more and more common, and not just against Asian-Americans. Sadly, the Asian-American population is under assault, and some are too afraid to even report it, so how much hate is actually out there and happening to them?! I really fear we may see some major violence against "unpopular" minorities in the near future, something so big, it may really rock us as a country.

I think there is far more that is going on that is making it into the 'headlines' and/or being reported to the authorities.

I mean... OK, you are a moron and blame an entire country for a pandemic... OK, stupid but ok. So... Anyone who is similar... Not the same, just similar... And is at the local mall... And lives in this country... Is a target for your racist anger?

Sheesh... Have they put out the standard 'I'm not racist' statement yet?

Ok I tried but she has a demon look and the two thumbs up looks too bro culture.

What I cannot believe is that he is stupid and racist enough to get on camera attacking a person but is also has a public job at a high level. Most people in positions like that, even if they are trumpettes, are not that stupid. They just aren't. He is a special kid and of stupid.

a better wage, sick leave, and benefits (like before he was hired). Let the well-payed dept. heads of golf, aquatics, ocean, skateboard park/parks, etc. report directly to the Parks & Rec Commission. Roger Miller's position is just bloat and quite frankly some of his past actions are questionable, embarrassing, self-serving, and not quite transparent. The hard working, honorable people that are indispensable are the ones that should be compensated. I think he's toast because of his past shady dealings, and the lack of trust from many in the community.

see the connection? So what does he do? Cuts hours of operation &/or operate with minimum coverage (as allowed by best practices). In the meanwhile he receives his bloated salary for poor/embarrassing decisions.

There is a lot of racial bigotry here. You should read about the history of the LAPD.

Not to mention a great deal of tension between minority groups. Lots of Black v. Latino; Black v. Korean, Latino v. Asian, etc....

When you put a lot of diverse groups together and make them compete for living space, you will get some boil over.

I have family in San Diego who I visited A LOT when I was younger. We used to call it, "the Whitest Mexican City in the world." There a very large population of Mexican and Mexican-American people, but the attitudes were very negative toward Latinos. I even had family who would call the people coming from Tijuana "Illegals" or "Pollos" (a derogatory term for people crossing the border), and I am first generation born in California, my parents and all my extended family came from Mexico to the US in the 1950's. Go figure.
