In an interview, Fani Willis discusses plans for special grand jury, recent threats
The Fulton County investigation examining former President Donald Trumps push to overturn Georgias 2020 presidential election results is entering a new phase, District Attorney Fani Willis said.
One year after the Democrat announced she was probing the actions of Trump and his allies here, prosecutors are turning their attention to a newly approved special purpose grand jury that can authorize subpoenas to compel testimony from more reticent witnesses.

(7,429 posts)The gist of the criticisms is that Willis is taking far too long to get the GJ moving and issuing indictments. While time certainly is of the essence, the investigation isn't just Trump-centric. It's encompassing obstruction and election fraud allegations including Lindsey Graham, Mark Meadows, and a host of other White House and DOJ officials in a racketeering conspiracy. Yeah, the slowness and deliberation are taking a lot of time, but the evidence is leading to a massive RICO case.
Some commenters are alleging that there's a different kind of conspiracy: one in which all of the various prosecutors and DAs are conspiring to slow down and eventually whitewash the Trump-related investigations. I suspect that there is a contingent of Trump sympathizers who are pushing these kinds of hypotheses in an effort to increase cynicism and loss of faith in the Rule of Law. It's also possible that those same posters are writing comments from St. Petersburg, Russia. Let's be careful. Virulent criticisms of the justice system dovetails nicely with Russia's foreign policy objectives so much so that it sometimes appears that they are one and the same.
Cynicism is easy. It feels good to act impulsively. But that may not get to the root of the injustice.

(31,946 posts)Ok, got it... Meanwhile back in the real world if she thought she needed a special grand jury why has she waited a year to get around to it? You use a grand jury when things are fresh in people's minds. At least that is why Putin told me to post.
