Bannon has no intention of ever playing by the correct rules, that most of us follow.
Like his buddy Trump, he does what he wants when he wants to.

(46,327 posts)If I wrote or said on a radio show or podcast that John Doe was a pedophile and wife-beater, I could easily and rightfully so get sued for libel or slander.
Much of what Bannon says on his shows is false, and he can be sued.

(13,569 posts)And I don't know why this traitor was treated like a gentleman upon his arrest -- allowed to turn himself in after the weekend, allowed to broadcast sedition freely across the land.
Elmer the one-eye is in federal custody.
Bannon is even more dangerous.
And yet someone let him walk free, and he doesn't go before a judge until July.

Unfortunately, bullshit wins too often.

NO BOND REQUIRED
No consequences but a court date seven months down the road.
An instigator of the worst crime in American history and still allowed to spew sedition and violence.
Sickening.

(768 posts)We've learned that to our dismay during the age of disinformation and the Internet.
Democracies are fragile, once we lose our moral underpinnings a determined anarchist movement can take them down.
All it takes here in the USA to destroy it is to keep repeating lies and spreading hate and division.

(13,569 posts)But he's being treated as a gentleman by TPTB, not as the sedition-talking traitor he is.
The state has the power to charge him, lock him up, with a gag order, to await trial.

(42,701 posts)on Pence?
Grasswire2
(13,569 posts)It can be anything authorities want it to be.
In the case of Paul Manafort and Gates, Judge Amy Berman Jackson opined:
"In order to safeguard defendants' rights to a fair trial, and to ensure that the court has the ability to seat a jury that has not been tainted by pretrial publicity, all interested participants in the matter, including the parties, any potential witnesses, and counsel for the parties and the witnesses, are hereby ordered to refrain from making statements to the media or in public settings that pose a substantial likelihood of material prejudice to this case," Jackson wrote.
A gag order on Bannon could, ergo, protect him from a tainted jury pool. Arguably.

(42,701 posts)Your own example proves otherwise. There has to be a risk to a fair trial of the defendant. Nothing Bannon said about Pence was about Bannon's trial or posed a risk to his getting a fair trial or posed a substantial likelihood of material prejudice to Bannon in his trial for defying Congress' subpoena.
