https://bluevirginia.us/2022/02/an-official-account-of-gov-youngkin-is-attacking-a-child-a-grown-man-bullying-a-kid-i-dont-even-think-trump-did-thatAfter a HORRENDOUS start to his governorship (a judge blocking his absurd/lawless executive order on masking in schools; getting taunted in an Alexandria Safeway to read the room, buddy!; an approval rating barely above water, during the normal honeymoon period, no less; etc), one can understand to an extent (even if its all his own fault) why Glenn Youngkin and his team might be frustrated at this point. But seriously? Attacking a high school student? This is completely pathetic on every level...

(35,454 posts)who faced a scandal because he attended a party in blackface when he was young and it, a pic, was in the yearbook. I'm just guessing at this.

(2,347 posts)Ralph Northam (D-VA). So hes attacking the kid for posing 1) with a Democrat, and 2) with a Democrat who made an admittedly bad choice of posing in blackface back in the early 1980s. And he gets a bonus with his crackpot followers by adding in a hit on Northam at the same time by bringing this back up.

(9,067 posts)Because I am not up to my elbow in Twitter all day, I am completely without context for what is happening. Google turned up nothing. So whatever's going on is an entirely inside-Twitter situation that the website doesn't feel the need to explain to anyone.
What is the tweet in response to?
The article is like someone walking into the room going, "Can you believe what's happening?!" when I don't even know what is happening. Was something said?
As for attacking high school students. Eh. We kinda burned our credibility on that one with Covington. So, let's maybe restrain the outrage just a touch. "Who would do this?!" Well, I mean, our side did for one. So maybe let's not go full Maude Flanders when the obvious retort from the Right is going to be that. That's just walking into things.
Still. On the surface it seems like a shitty cheap shot and beneath the office. I imagine one of his amazing social media people managed that one. Does Virginia not have good social media managers? First McAuliffe's screwed up with the Lincoln Project. Now this. If I were paid enough, I could hang out on Twitter and be shitty to people all day. I probably wouldn't even have to quit my current job.
Just saying. My hat's in the ring.

(2,347 posts)Hes done some critical, but professional, tweets at/about Youngkin amidst his pro-Democrat tweets. Looks like the kid just attracted Youngkins attention and Youngkin or someone in his office was dumb enough to respond in this manner.

(1,521 posts)The previous Virginia governor was Democrat Ralph Northam who served Jan 2018 to Jan 2022.
When he was a student at VMI, Northam posed in blackface -- that's the photo of a person in blackface.
That photo surfaced after Northam was elected prompting him to make a statewide apology tour to Virginia's Africa-American community -- who responded by letting him know they understood he did what he did in another era and they accepted his apologies. He built on his apologies by passing legislation supported by the VA African-American community, and, supporting the removal of Confederate statues, including the huge Robert E. Lee statue that was a landmark on Richmond's Monument Avenue since 1891.
However, Virginian Republicans continued to throw up the blackface photo day in and day out -- and they still do.
The photo of the young man standing with Governor Northam was taken -- I think -- from the young man's Twitter or Facebook page where he posted it to show himself standing proudly beside the Governor.
Now, for some reason known only to Republican idiots, Governor Youngkin -- our new shit-for-brains Republican governor -- used his official Twitter account to attack the young man for standing next to Gov. Northam by posting the old Northam blackface photo.
Republicans will revel in this Youngkin stunt while normal people will recognize it for what it is -- the desperate gasping of a new governor who -- three weeks into his term -- is already underwater in his approval rating and who just lost his first lawsuit.
