BTW, I went to summer camp with Rod Serling's other daughter. I remember when her parents came to visit, he got a lot of attention. He was a small very tan man in a bright yellow sweater and died way too young.

He was one of those guys who was born to be a writer. The stories just gushed out of him like water out of a fire hose. The typewriter had trouble keeping up! He served in the Army during World War II and his experience in battle in The Philippines affected him, and his writing, for the rest of his life.

It was his movie "Patterns" that propelled him into the stratosphere:

And he was there just like any Dad, to see his daughter ride in the camp horse show.

Thanks for the background, I've seen The Twilight Zone, but wasn't aware of this movie.

He did a lot of films during World War II. Here's one for US troops who were flooding into England at the time. This is to familiarize them with English culture.

He played so many great, quirky roles. I don't know if we have anyone today who compares to him. He's one of those people who could play an accountant and still keep you mesmerized. Not that any director would ever waste him in such a role. Anytime I see him in an old movie or show, I have to keep watching it.

The German poet, Heinrich Heine in 1836, wrote:

Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Heinrich_Heine

Which has been translated sometimes as:

Wherever books are burned, they will in the end burn people.

Also, there is a book burning scene in the 1940 film The Mortal Storm starring Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan.
This was a film that Hitler banned from Nazi Germany.
