'Nuff said?

Over the past few weeks, we have been inundated with revelations about the lead-up to January 6th, the events of that day, and the aftermath.

We have learned about fraudulent electors and the forged documents they signed - and, in some cases, the Republicans who arranged for the signatories to meet in order to break the law.

We have learned about the content of many of the documents the Trump administration tried so desperately to hide from the Select Committee and the American people - even the documents that Trump had torn-up in violation of the protocols/laws governing their preservation.

We have learned about the timing and duration of phone calls between Trump and his operatives - calls that have previously been 'not remembered', or out-and-out denied.

We heard Trump publicly admit that he tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election - and we heard him call for an investigation into Mike Pence for refusing to do what was illegal and unConstitutional in furtherance thereof.

We heard Trump call for his supporters to stage massive protests should he be indicted, as he promised pardons to those who attacked the Capitol on his behalf - and, by implication, those who would do so in future.

And through it all, the GOP's only response has been one of two things: that the violent insurrection on January 6th was "legitimate political discourse" and/or "I invoke my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution on the grounds that answering questions may incriminate me."

'Nuff said? No, actually it's nuthin' said - and the failure of the GOP to say anything in defense of all that is being exposed about Trump and their party is telling by virtue of their complete silence.

It's over - and the Republicans know it. And their silence is the proof thereof.

1. Technicality, we learned of the fake electors over a year ago.

"Attorney Ian Northon, special counsel for The Amistad Project of the conservative Thomas More Society, was with a group of Republican state lawmakers that failed to escort 16 GOP electors into the Michigan Capitol building Monday. Electors of president and vice-president are required by state law to convene in the Senate chamber at 2 p.m. on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December following their election.

Northon said Republican electors sent alternative documents to Congress in case the state Legislature decides to replace Democratic electors. House Speaker Lee Chatfiled, R-Levering, and Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, said they have no interest in replacing electors after facing pressure from Trump supporters during the last month."

Trump Campaign Assembling Alternate Electors In Key States In Far-Fetched Attempt To Overturn Election

TOPLINE In an unprecedented move, groups of self-styled “electors” arranged by the Trump campaign in battleground states won by President-elect Joe Biden will meet Monday to vote for President Trump and send results claiming he won the states’ presidential elections to Congress, White House advisor Stephen Miller said Monday, the latest of the president’s far-fetched attempts to challenge Biden’s victory—which, like his previous efforts, is almost entirely certain to fail."

"I-Team: Nevada Republican electors cast symbolic, meritless votes for President Trump

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Hours after Nevada’s six electors cast their votes for President-elect Joe Biden through the official state process, the Nevada Republican Party’s six electors signed paperwork signaling their support for President Donald Trump in a symbolic ceremony devoid of any legal merit."

"Wisconsin GOP electors meet to cast their own votes too - just in case

Published: Dec. 14, 2020 at 2:28 PM EST|Updated: Dec. 14, 2020 at 2:29 PM EST
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Gov. Tony Evers and the nine other Democratic electors who met at the Wisconsin statehouse weren’t the only ones who gathered Monday to cast their ballots for President of the United States.

The Wisconsin Republicans had their electoral slate come together to cast their votes for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, in hopes that the Democratic-controlled U.S. House of Representatives count their votes instead, the Associated Press reported."

"As electoral college formalizes Biden’s win, Trump backers hold their own vote

By Haisten Willis, Jeremy Duda, Kathleen Masterson and David A. Fahrenthold
December 14, 2020

ATLANTA — Republicans in six states won by President-elect Joe Biden held their own electoral college-style votes Monday for President Trump — hoping that future court decisions would throw out Biden's votes and count the GOP ones instead.

These votes have no legal meaning, according to election law experts. The law only recognizes votes from electors chosen according to state law — which, in every one of these states, is the Democratic electors.

But many Republicans who had been chosen to cast electoral votes for Trump still gathered to cast them. They said they were employing a tactic used by Democrats in Hawaii in an election 60 years ago — casting votes that don’t count, in the hopes that a later court decision would give them force.

This year, that seems very unlikely to work."

6. Even worse.........

it's not "the failure of the GOP to say anything in defense" - there's NOTHING there to defend!

What IS worse, however, is that ONLY 2 'censured' Republicans are willing to admit that there were crimes committed and that there was an insurrection.

And THE WORST - they are falling over themselves to get in line for TFG to lead them forward!

This still feels like a slow burn leading to something huge. Still -

In Mr. Bragg and Ms. Willis I trust. Bragg will have Ms. James civil suit as a basis for criminal charges, and Ms. Willis has recordings. They also have the State and Jury pool. I would love to see 45 and its minions in the Georgia prison system.

8. Why would the GOP say anything, it was complicit.
Sun Feb 6, 2022, 08:42 AM

It still is complicit, still is furthering the insurrection. How many members of the GOP will even admit that Joe Biden won the election?

All of the Big Fish are taking the 5th Amendment, not wanting to incriminate themselves in a crime.

By taking the 5th they admit possible crimes, yet DOJ can't act because it must allow for "executive privilege," even though executive privilege doesn't apply in covering up a crime.

DOJ spent 3 weeks to indict Steve Bannon over executive privilege.
DOJ has spent so far 53 days deciding whether to indict Mark Meadows because of executive privilege.

I repeat, executive privilege cannot be used to cover up crimes. Any criminal from the Trump administration would be a fool to cooperate with DOJ when all he/she has to do is say the magic words, executive privilege.

10. My point being ...

... that they've given up even trying to spin the facts.

We're not hearing the usual excuses, the usual "there are perfectly legitimate reasons for these things", etc.

The regular microphone hogs aren't even bothering to speak up - and that is very unusual for a party that normally tries to put a spin inconvenient facts as soon as they emerge.

9. And this is exactly why they are so dangerous at this moment

They know, have known for years, that they are a minority clinging to outdated ideologies. They only had a false moral comeuppance keeping their tribe together. It became obvious when they accepted Trump that they no longer even cared to have a pretense of moral equivalency. The only way they could hold any power was to cheat and create disillusion about our voting process to hide and facilitate further cheating.
A cornered animal about to loose their place at the table is what we are faced with.
