Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia on Sunday endorsed the re-election campaign of his Republican colleague Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
Murkowski is one of seven Republicans who voted to convict former President Trump in his second impeachment trial, leading Trump to lambast her as "disloyal" and endorse her opponent.
What they're saying: "I'm endorsing my dear friend Lisa Murkowski. Alaska could only be so lucky to have her continue to serve them," Manchin said on CNN's "State of the Union.

(9,937 posts)Lisa's primary challengers are well to the right of her. So is our Joe supporting the most "progressive by default" candidate? You be the judge!

(10,497 posts)I suspect he's doing it less for "his dear friend" Murkowski and more for his own benefit of future GOP support and campaign donations.
It smells of Lieberman.

(53,544 posts)And that could work against Murkowski. Do we want a real whack job beating Murkowski?

(1,617 posts)People, we need Murkowski. She's the Joe Manchin of the Republicans, or would be, if they were in power.
Instead of focusing our energy waterfall defecating on Manchin and Sinema, we should be focusing on what policy would peel off other half-heartedly partied Senators like Murkowski and Romney.
Oh no, but we can't do that, we have to eat our own. Because losing and validating our victim complex is more important than passing more broadly supported legislation.
Oh and anyone thinking of primarying Sinema should consider what happened when repukes tried to toss Murkowski. It's hard to toss a popular politician with name recognition and broad appeal.

(16,385 posts)Her approval is in the low double digits, Im talking like 13% or something around that number.

(1,617 posts)Murkowski wasn't popular with her party. Repukes ran a primary candidate and won.
Murkowski then ran a mother fucking write-in campaign and won.
And again, we're waterfall defecating on Sinema 24x7. ANY candidate, under that kind of negative campaign, would suffer in poll numbers. It's why we used to support campaign finance reform.
Sinema's primary campaign is YEARS away young Zappa, YEARS. All this negative information is only making her bitter towards us. It's a stupid play, but again, we're the party of impulse and emotion so we won't let long-term planning stop us from indulging in a self-destructive mistake.

This polling is nothing for a candidate in a purple state and aware of political ebb and flow to be worried about. In fact, the mixed results are actually beneficial.
Hmm, now if we're thinking 4D chess maybe that is the move...
If so, carry on with your rage.

(16,385 posts)Im just stating that Sinema is very susceptible to a primary challenge in 2024. Murkowski is a different story, I believe shes fairly popular in Alaska.
