There is a thread for all the "thank you's."
It's at: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216329906
How about we use it and not turn GD into 3 pages of "thanks for the hearts"?
Or move the thank you's to the lounge, and save GD for topical discussion?
Maybe?

(21,940 posts)I'm glad everyone enjoys the giving and getting of hearts once a year, but let's not forget that Hearts week is ultimately a fundraiser for DU. Therefore, during this week only, I don't mind if people want to start thank you threads wherever they like because it keeps the fundraiser front and center.
Even with many thank you threads, I'd argue that it's less obtrusive than the old days when we used to have big banners at the top of every page and generally bug the heck out of everyone during our fund drives.
Folks who don't wish to see thank you threads could always trash the keywords "heart" or "hearts" or even "thank you" in My Account > Trash Can -- just for this week -- and then they won't have to be bothered by them.

(14,642 posts)If I remember correctly, there was maybe a year or so when it didn't happen for some reason (or I'm senile). It's a great reminder to renew and a lot of fun.
I've been a member for a long time and don't really recognize very many people here anymore. Still, it's my go-to site. Thanks for giving us a safe place for all these years!

(10,151 posts)And I still remember when DU did it's first Valentine hearts week. I think the rules page was the busiest page.
And Thank You for the hearts....This is very creative and nice.

(38,545 posts)Just wonder if there isn't a place to put them so that topical issues don't sink to page 3 or 4
It was just a suggestion... and if the people who liked the suggestion decide to post in the "thank you" thread, it will mean that the thread issues will stay on the recent page a little longer.

(42,770 posts)Membership, correct? What if your membership isn't due for renewal until late this year? In other words do you pledge to renew again even though it's quite a ways away?

(5,639 posts)Hearts are kind of a nice to have to give and also to show the DU admin team some extra love as well, cause...money.
Happy heart day...

(21,940 posts)when you renew your Star Membership you're essentially canceling your previous one and starting a new one. It's your most recent Star Membership purchase that gets you a one year membership from the time you purchased it.
So you could make, say, a single purchase on January 1 2022 and your Star Membership would last until January 1 2023. But if you renew on June 1 2022, your Star Membership will then run until June 1 2023.
Making a single purchase means you're good for a year, but many folks like to renew multiple times per year (we encourage this during Hearts week in February and the Summer Fund Drive in August) as a way to give the site additional support.
It works the same way for DUers who make recurring monthly contributions. Each month their Star Membership essentially renews, so if they stop their recurring contribution at any time, they still get a year Star Membership from the time of their last payment.

(7,263 posts)I am a monthly, and was a bit confused too.
I think the DNC or ActBlue should do something like this too...have a promotion where we can donate $$, buy hearts and then give them to the candidate of our choice, each heart equals $1, or $5 depending on what you choose.
Make a big splash page and tweet the results hourly or daily etc.
And we could also buy 'piles of poo' to give to reTHUGlicans or fascists or Fake News orgs except the DNC/ACTBlue would keep those funds and donate them to law firms fighting the good fight against trumpism/fascism. Again track this with regular tweets and website splash pages.

I don't know if that works for membership? possibly. My membership was expiring this month anyway so that made it easy.

(28,787 posts)I agree. The thing is I'm not going to navigate to a separate thread. Also, I don't read all the thank you threads.
Let me take this opportunity to thank the people who hearted me already
