It was kinda cold and dry for my run yesterday, so I wore an N95 to warm and moisten my breath.

It was a tad harsh breathing weather, so I wore a brand-new 8210 to make sure I had nicely heated, damp air to inhale.

Running is the only sport I'm actually good at, I won the coveted Master of Sports award in high school for eleven varsity letters on it, so while I think this is a catastrophically slow performance it's objectively not bad at all, and if I say the mask helped, it helped...shit, I have plenty of sedate friends who make 5K a goal and get psyched if they can do it at all, let alone this fast.

If you "can't breathe" in an N95 you're a fucking snowflake.

It's an all downhill course so it's artificially inflated; my 5K PR is 16:53 and that was on a hilly XC course...I was serious when I said I was actually a good runner

That said, I do know it's still a 90th-percentile performance, and if I can wear an N95 and sustain a heart rate over 168 with the concomitant breathing needs for almost the entire stretch, you can certainly manage to wander around a store for a half hour wearing one.

Absolutely no shade on hockey players but they can at least slow down for a bit, take a break if they really need to - you don't get that luxury when running. The only way to be better is to simply push (and breathe) harder.

Both the US & Canadian teams have excellent coaching, meaning they have excellent line discipline, not letting their players stay on the ice for longer than needed, so they can recuperate quickly between shifts.

I can see it being super useful in your context. It's like having a nice scarf when it's twenty below. The moisture is protecting your lungs and retaining heat.

But indoors at the gym, that was kind of a thing. It's already somewhat humid in the space. I use an arc trainer there five days a week, and those first few weeks back. Ugh. I hate humidity, and it felt like I was running in the middle of Midwestern summer. I'm not claustrophobic, but a mask with HIIT can be really unpleasant.

But, as in all things, it's just something to be dealt with. I dislike it, but whatkinyado.

I'm OK running in the middle of the day in an NYC summer, 90s both temperature and humidity, so even indoors a mask doesn't kill me. I've been wearing one spinning in the gym for most of the pandemic but that's not the kind of performance that gets people's attention.

It kept the cold air from being rammed down my throat. I usually didn't need to do that, but when it got really REALLY cold and windy, I would.

They are comfortable and breathing is
no problem.

I like them when the air is cold too.

My group has two courts and we all wear masks when playing. We all,got used to it very quickly.

I also wear my mask outdoors when going on a walk as it keeps my nose warm and my lips from getting chapped.
