The Postal Service has named a new chairman to its Board of Governors, a move that will likely ensure Postmaster General Louis DeJoy stays on as the agency’s chief executive.

The USPS Board of Governors on Wednesday unanimously elected Roman Martinez IV, a Republican member of the board, to serve as its next chairman.

(snip)

Martinez pointed to the Biden administration’s upcoming plans to mail millions of COfVID-19 testing kits to households as a sign that the White House holds confidence in the agency’s leadership. He also praised DeJoy as a “transformational leader” who is helping USPS improve its long-term financial health.

“The best team needs a leader, and I believe that Postmaster General DeJoy is that person to carry out the restructure that is needed,” Martinez said.

Martinez also applauded the rollout of a 10-year reform plan last year, which looks to reverse the impact of 15 years of annual net losses by 2030. Under that plan, USPS has increased mail prices and implemented a new service standard that slows the delivery of 40% of first-class mail.

"The best team needs a leader..." without business related conflicts of interest... and who doesn't want to destroy the USPS for financial gain.
WTF is going on?

That's a fact not in dispute.

Just like privatizing education, Medicare, SS

There's no evidence that either party intends to stop it

Here we are sweating it out as the Supreme Court approves gerrymandering in the Southern states, and we can't even ensure that the mailing service will be fair.

And there is a vacancy on the Board (pending approval by the Senate) that will provide the deciding vote.

But by all means, beat up on President Biden for being unresponsive to the demands of the blogosphere to move things along.

House Democrats Investigating Postmaster General Over Campaign Finance Allegations

House Democrats say they are investigating Postmaster General Louis DeJoy over allegations reported by The Washington Post that he asked employees to donate to certain political candidates and then reimbursed them through bonuses.

"If these allegations are true, Mr. DeJoy could face criminal exposure — not only for his actions in North Carolina, but also for lying to our committee under oath," House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., said in a written statement.

Bloom's term on the board has expired, and Biden appointed his replacement in November, but that replacement has not been confirmed. Once it is, then hopefully that will be another vote against DeJoy.

The postal board is weird because there can only be four democrats and four republicans plus one independent. Here is an article about the most recent nominees: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/19/us/politics/biden-usps-board-members.html

I don't know this for certain, but when it comes to voting for the chair and vice chair, both votes pretty much always seem to be unanimous, and they alternate between republicans and democrats. So the previous chair was a democrat and this new chair, Martinez, is a republican. The previous vice-chair was a republican (Martinez), while the new vice chair is a democrat--and a Biden appointee. I don't know his specific stance on DeJoy, but he was the lawyer for the postal workers union.

Biden appointed two new board members awaiting senate confirmation back in Nov/Dec, albeit one is a republican. Not sure if he was required to appoint a republican or not, but it may explains why Trump nominated Bloom, a democrat to the board. Once they are in, there SHOULD be enough votes to oust dejoy unless one of them screw us all over.
