Fla. GOP bill allows parents to sue if their child requests a vegetarian meal and they're not told

Daniel Uhlfelder @DWUhlfelderLaw
The Florida Republican Senate controlled by Ron DeSantis is pushing through a bill that just passed a committee vote that would allow parents to sue a school if their child requests a vegetarian meal for lunch and they are not consulted & attorney's fees if they win.

Daniel Uhlfelder @DWUhlfelderLaw 3h
DeSantis pushes ‘anti-woke’ legislation that would let parents sue Florida schools over student ‘discomfort’ https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/02/07/desantis-anti-woke-act/

They will soon be legislating everything they don't care for. Pretty soon it will be illegal to play a cartoon on the TV and makes a child feel uncomfortable. Sue! The commercial made me feel uncomfortable! Sue! That dress made me look bad Sue! That food we were served tasted terrible Sue!Buying all those expensive clothes did make me feel any better Sue! Where's it going to end?

Unlike Bill Clinton, who went on to Boy’s Nation, I didn’t have a clue what it was. Therefore, while those interested in politics went on to win the “governorship” and seats in the “legislature,” I was part of the “town council” in my barracks, uh, I mean dormitory.

Our “town council” passed page after page of the most ridiculous, unconstitutional BS you can imagine. And we were more responsible than today’s Republican party.

I’m not vegan although I am more than not. Until n unless school
Lunches accommodate vegans, religious menus er all.. parents may have to pick up the pace. Maybe brown bag like the old days when I went to lunch. Unless n until parents n taxpayers want to foot the bill for these choices.. gotta get inventive. Quit squawking n do something

I would assume that the parents would not sue.

The law is stupid, and it won't pass. (Will it???? Geez. We are living in stupid times. It might.) But, the parents would have to sue the school for something like that.

They threaten to sue all the time and it usually works. Schools don't like the bad press.

Not all by themselves, of course. Taxpayer-funded mandatory universal schooling is being targeted.

I wish she could have some teeth, but the GOP leg really isolates and hamstrings Dems. But, she is a great advocate for her district.

And they will do anything to detract from the goals of educating children. The reason is simple; the dumber you are the more likely you are to support the GOP.
