So the question for MoscowMitch is

If you knew it was a violent insurrection, why didn’t you tell your members to remove the Slobfather after he was impeached?
This shit would have been over a year ago,
To be kind- go fuck yourself. MoscowMitch - you’re a two-bit opportunist who only cares about money and power.

... best case is that he realizes 45 is on a downward spiral and wants to keep his own power/money...

too early in the morning to even imagine what the worse case would be, as every time the GOP pulls a stunt, I keep thinking, "...well, that's the worse thing..." and they keep shocking me....

... you'd think that after these 5 yrs, I'd learn not to be shocked...

who is now putting on a new image for Republicans. As Trump sinks further into absurdity and investigations, Rs are seeing the political liabilities for themselves and doing a cosmetic remake.

They know that the Trump insanity will hurt them in mid terms. Trump gave them what they wanted and could not have achieved without him - SC majority, voter suppression, deregulations, likelihood of overturning Roe. They will uphold the same policies with a newer, more sane looking face.

They will try to present themselves as sane moderate conservatives against "socialist" Dems to be respectable enough to vote for.

My understanding is that candidates are still paying a severe price (among the voter base) for not hewing to the 'great leader.' 2024 might be different - but it doesn't look like many are daring such a leap this year.

this according to David Plouffe, a brilliant campaign manager. Plouffe said that McConnell's little speech was most likely based on polling he got from Senate races, his GQPers are losing in states not dominated by crazy Magats. His little speech was purely political.

Did anyone watch MeConnell's speech? Did you see the expression on Joni Ernst's face standing next to Mitch? I thought she was about to cry.

to give his speech about how horrible Donald trumps actions were~~~~~ should of been the absolute end. He must of told the base he must say something in order to save the party and to carry on as usual.
Moscow Mitch should of been done as well and every Democratic should of reminded him of his speech and media outlet!
I will never trust Mitch! He’s the epitome of that word they invented years ago….. flipflopper!

Now QAnon/MAGA has become a liability, so the GOP will try to reverse the bus and drive it right down the political middle, just like Democrats are already doing.

Mitch knows this. He knows what he is doing. By November the GOP will be Old Time GOP Cold Warriors and Democrats will be pinko commies. At least in Mitch's mind.

Mitch wants to be majority leader again, nothing more, nothing less. As David Plouffe said yesterday, Mitch got polling from states that show the GQP Senate candidates losing, so Mitch needs to change the narrative.

As always it's to cover his ass.

He senses that continuing to support Trump will be a liability for the party going forward.

He knows that if Trump does return to power, he will proceed to destroy America as we once knew it. And that means his personal wealth and his family's wealth. He's not stupid. He understands the catastrophe that a full Fascist takeover will precipitate.

Like the grizzled leader of the last tiny herd of American bison or an art deco ornament clinging to the front of an antique car's hood. He's long since forgotten how to even spell "principle". He never understood the concept, anyway. He always wondered what the fuss was about. There has only been winning, whether at trial or the ballot box. His personal fight against anything which doesn't conform to his theory of power is his only consistent guide, his north star. He is the "hit man", the go-to tool of the PTB. The black vs white of his metric allows for no dead weight, any refinement through ideological consideration or introspection is wasted effort, a hindrance, mere pathway litter to be cleared by whatever means. For him, justice, fairness and posterity are no more important than ash flicked from the end of a cigarette. But his cherished delusions are also his greatest nemeses. They haunt his old age in the specter of D. J. Trump, the bull in his China shop, and, frankly, it couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow. The original and genuine "Irishman".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday delivered a statement before a reconvened joint session of Congress interrupted by pro-Trump demonstrators who stormed the Capitol as lawmakers certified the 2020 election results.

The following is the text of McConnell's remarks:

I want to say to the American people the United States Senate will not be intimidated. We will not be kept out of this chamber by thugs, mobs or threats. We will not bow to lawlessness or intimidation. We are back at our posts. We will discharge our duty under the Constitution and for our nation. And we're going to do it tonight.

{ ... }

The United States and the United States Congress have faced down much greater threats than the unhinged crowd we saw today. We've never been deterred before, and we will not be deterred today. They tried to disrupt our democracy. They failed. They failed. They failed to attempt to obstruct the Congress.

This failed insurrection only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our republic. Our nation was founded precisely so that the free choice of the American people is what shapes our self-government and determines the destiny of our nation – not fear, not force, but the peaceful expression of the popular will. {...}

Trump provoked deadly Capitol riot, Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell says

President Trump helped provoke the swarms of his supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor.
“The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people,” McConnell said.

great power so he could do big things, which he of course defines as right.

After all, he's always been famous for his hunger for power and dearth of principles and ideology. Was he outraged at the invasion of the Capitol more because it violated some weak ideals or because it challenged his power? Whichever, he insisted on bringing everyone back to finalize certification of the election that night.

For THAT I am very grateful. For other things, I hope his careful ass covering fails and he ends up in prison. Unlikely, but I don't doubt guilt.

Btw, for most of his life he was also disinterested in wealth, apparently coming in later years to want some for himself when most who do do -- when they realize they're poor and can't afford to associate with almost everyone they associate with. Not, of course, that he will ever look anything but compared to the ultrawealthy classes he decided to align with. Not unless his billionaire FIL died and left most of it to McConnell's wife.

Money and power are the end all of everything. MoscowMitch has no other redeeming character traits. There is no substance, no compassion, and no meaningful ideas or actions.

And by his actions and re-actions, he will soon learn that his obedience to those who have more money and more power than him, will leave him and go to another, like it always does. Because it has no substance.

He will learn one day, I hope, that you can't hold on to or control what has no substance. Everything he has done will come back to him 100 fold.

He chose the wrong hill to die on that's for sure!!! And what a really stupid hill!!!
