(18,973 posts)You've got generations of Americans growing up now without the basic understanding of the separation of church and state. They believe a made up history that this country was founded to have a non secular government.
They have no idea what James Madison meant when he wrote the 1st Amendment to the Constitution because they refuse to study him.
"And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in showing that religion and Government will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together." James Madison
"Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other Religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other Sects?" James Madison
"Who does not see that . . . the same authority which can force a citizen to contribute three pence only of his property for the support of any one establishment, may force him to conform to any other establishment in all cases whatsoever?" James Madison
They don't get that when they force others to support their religion, they are risking being forced themselves to support a religion they don't believe in.

(471 posts)... I'm Christian, but not 'that kind of' Christian...
... I'm embarrassed by this kind of action/attitude/approach/expression of faith...
I was raised to go about life doing the best I could and hopefully others will see the good in you and ask what makes you tick. You win by example, not by brow-beating... after all, the warning was to beware of those who prayed in pubic just for show.....
