Some good news I think...

We had a citywide election yesterday for Mayor, City Council and a few School Board seats. We have a group that began in our city during Trump's reign of terror who are far right wing and vow to bring our city into line with their crazy right wing thinking. 2 years ago they were driving their pick up trucks full of Trump flags, American flags and Don't Tread On Me Flags in large groups all over town to intimidate people.

They tried to recall our amazing female mayor and two female council members. They were successful with the council recall but not the mayor. They set up tents all over town getting the required signatures and spreading their hate and fear. Their main battle cry was about the mayor and council de-funding the police which was not the least bit true.

This time they ran two candidates for council and a really crazy one for mayor. The mayoral candidate was at the insurrection along with her boyfriend who won a council seat the last time around.

This time all of the candidates backed by this group, funded by a large developer who would prefer there be no rules related to buildings, lost. The mayoral candidate only got 12 percent of the vote. Our wonderful council woman won over a true nut job by 14 points.

There will be a runoff for mayor, between our current mayor and a right of center but not totally crazy man. The pictures from the watch party said it all. His party was full of old white guys, her pictures were full of a diverse group of men, women, working people and university folks. It looked like our city.

She may not win, but she got the majority of the vote, and the left of center guy who ran got 18 percent so that group should go to our mayor and not the republican. We don't have what they call "partisan elections" where they run with a party affiliation, but everyone knows who is who so it really doesn't matter.

Runoff election on April 5th. My husband and I were both surprised by this result, we felt by how loud the right wing is here that there were many more of them than there appear to be. They fill council meetings and bully everyone, but they don't seem to have the numbers I thought they did.

I just saw this as a good omen for the future. Maybe people are tired of the crazies.

And maybe some bullies are finding it exhausting to be crazy all the time.

many areas of the country. At least in areas of the country that have a population where people outnumber the cattle or antelope. I hope it gains steam, and fast.

It is also really really red. But our town is a university town, lots and lots of smart people. Even the townies who work for the university as staff realize that if the take funding from educaton they could lose their jobs.

The steady drip-drip of news releases and investigations--not to mention the energy required to police everything, will erode the bluster and bravado. Since much of this is mob mentality, once the numbers weaken the individuals will go back home to bravely yelling at their TVs.

I watched part of Joe this morning, and David Ignatius said McConnell, who wants Republicans to regain control everywhere, is "fit to be tied at the kind of candidates" running in the Republican primaries.

Love it. He'll already have heard your city handed these nut jobs their...MAGA hats.

For how he is handling Foreign Affairs. They also showed polls that are much better than they were. Biden was giving an A - on his handling the economy.

Red State Girl, that is great news. We have to start at the bottom of the chain to get rid of the corruption. I only hope my state will do the same!

The money the right spent on the crazy woman who lost will be moved to the guy who beat her. He isn't quite as bad, but he is far right wing as well. All of us need to be very vigilant to make sure our towns and cities are not taken over by these nuts.
